Author's Note: A bit of the Infamous Scene in here. Also, happy holidays everyone. I apologize for not writing out a good blog about Christmas and the coming year, but I'm always thinking of my VuTales friends :). Hope you all had wonderful holidays and I wish you all the very very best for 2010. May the new year bring you all joy, happiness, prosperity, and most importantly, laughter. Thanks so much for everything you've given me. I could never stop repaying my debt to each and every one of you.

The Lone Shadow Templar

7: Edge of Perfection

They knew where I was all the time. I could not run, I could not hide. Sooner or later, they would find me and bring me in with impunity. No regard for the others.

I couldn’t do it.

“Nat!” his voice was rushed and panicked. “Nat we have to go!”

My feet were stuck, one in front of the other, unmoving. There was no strength left. It was me they wanted. It was me that they would always want.

Emerald matched black and I shook my head slowly, “Sorry Felix… but… they won’t ever stop.”

A bullet whizzed through the air, splintering through a branch, sending wood searing through the air. Their gunfire was almost starting to reach us.

“Felix go, take the others to safety,” I demanded through my mind. He started to reply but quickly continued, “Please… for me… for… Aaron…”

His face became stern, but finally nodded in agreement.

“Good luck, Natalie,” he thought back and disappeared into the woods.

I was alone now.

Slowly, I raised my hands above my head, holding the S-36 unthreateningly. The first of them smashed through the bushes and trained his weapon at me, screaming for me to stay still. Soon, the entire group’s voices pounded against my eardrums, blocking out all other thoughts.

Then, it all stopped as Nass walked casually into the clearing. “Well well, given up now have we?”

“Yes…” I replied blankly, staring straight ahead.

“False, go for it.” Nass said to no one in sight.

Suddenly, I felt a knife at my throat and heavy breathing down my neck, “This belongs to you, beautiful.” False held my blade against my skin as he cuffed my hands behind my back. With me subdued, I felt a sharp pain behind my knee as he kicked me to the ground. I looked up hatefully; he was circling me like a predator.

“I’m going to make sure you suffer,” False sneered through his mask, “I’m going to make sure you hurt in the deepest way possible.”

“That’s enough,” Nass cut him off, “Let’s get this over with please.”

“My pleasure,” False growled. He suddenly spun around. I saw the toe of his boot and heard a crunch.

Blackness…

We were in a field. The sun shone brightly, complimenting a calm zephyr that ruffled his hair. The air was cool as it kissed the single bead of sweat on my brow. A picturesque scene, beauty and tranquility binding together into a perfect day. The green grass swayed back and forth in the breeze as if under water.

It was beautiful.

He took my hand and we walked through the tall grass, my other hand outstretched, feeling the lush blades across my palm. We made our way down the hillside, revealing a vast, sparkling lake in the afternoon sun; the placid water was crystal clear, revealing the smiling fish below.

The water was cool as my toes sunk into the tiny grains of sand. I waded into the shallows, letting the water up to my waist, making my pants cling tightly around my legs. He followed as I pulled him in. We laughed. There wasn’t a care in the world.

Suddenly, I felt the cold sting of lake water hit my face and heard his chuckle as he wiped his hands on his shirt. I returned with a sly grin, then splashed through the water, hitting him head on and bringing both of us flailing into the lake.

I opened my eyes. He was there, smiling through the sapphire clarity. The water made his hair wave around angelically and the sunlight made everything seem to sparkle. He held out his hand for me.

I reached and felt his firm grasp pull me closer into an embrace underwater. It didn’t even feel like we needed breaths; all that mattered was each other. He cupped his hand around my cheek and leaned in, closing his eyes. We kissed in blackness.

Our bodies rose to the surface but never separated. I wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged him tighter to me, melding my lips with his. We kissed ferociously and passionately, disturbing the once calm lake with splashes and ripples.

His lips worked their way down my neck, making me release a low moan. I knew he smiled at my pleasure; all he ever wanted was to make me happy.

And he did… he always did.

But I pulled his face away from my chest and looked deeply into his eyes.

“Baby…” I whispered, holding him close to my face.

“Yes honey?” he replied with his perfect voice.

“Do you think that anywhere else in the world, that someone’s doing this exact same thing?”

“I hope so… otherwise what’s the point of living?” His logic made my heart beat faster. I loved him.

I pulled him in once more, our bodies becoming one in another fiery kiss. He picked me up and started wading to the shore. Wrapping my legs around his waist, I forced him back down just before we reached the clean white sand. It was shallow enough for him to lie on his back without the lake engulfing him. I sat on top of him, feeling the water gently nudge us from behind.

“You just can’t get enough can you?” he laughed as he kissed my neck.

“I can’t get enough of you…” I whispered with my eyes closed. I put my hands on his chest and felt his muscles tense. His heartbeat fluttered with my own. I leaned down and kissed his neck, then nestled my head in. He turned over to his side and wrapped his arms around me. I felt his lips on my forehead.

“I love you Natalie,” he murmured into my ear, “Forever and always.”

“Don’t ever leave me?” I asked, feeling his cool breath on my forehead.

“Didn’t you hear me?” he replied with a chuckle, “I love you, forever and always.”

“Good…” I sighed with a smile.

The two of us fell asleep, surrounded my mother nature’s beauty. The birds up above chirped happily as the waves crested over our bodies. A breath of air gently ruffled our hair, but by then, we were already running together in our dreams.

But it was a dream.

Everything became cold and white. I tried to move my hands but they were bound. Blinking a few times, I realized I was looking into a blinding beam of artificial light. Turning my head, I saw him, Nass standing there with a smug look on his face.

“Good morning, Night,” he greeted me. I tried to open my mouth but it had been taped shut.

“We had to take every precaution possible to ensure a quick and efficient process,” he continued, moving closer. The bright light finally clicked off; the room was now lit by dozens of dim yellow orbs floating somewhere up above.

“False,” Nass motioned with his hand, and immediately, he was next to him. He handed Nass a small empty syringe. The next moment, he disappeared, and I felt my head suddenly being turned straight up; I was strapped down.

“Alright, here we go,” Nass sighed as he moved in, “My predecessors have gotten this far, but no further. It is my turn now…” He seemed to be talking to himself.

There was nothing I could do but lay there helplessly, watching the needle move ever closer.

“This won’t hurt a bit, beautiful.” Nass reassured. I didn’t believe him.

False leaned down right next to my ear and whispered chillingly, “This will hurt, Night.” He moved a tiny centimeter closer, “In fact, this will hurt… forever… and… always…”

The needle stabbed into my brain and I never stopped screaming.
