Time seems like it has such a perfect balance.
If time were any slower the days would seem to never end. If time were faster, we’d grow old quicker and wouldn’t learn as much as we could have. I guess it all depends on how time begins. The rate a which is a minute, hour, day, year, century, would be different if time were faster or slower, but it would feel normal, because we’ve never experienced a different rate of time. Often, I feel like there aren’t enough hours in a day. I guess that’s how it’s meant to be. If you could accomplish something that would normally take twice as much time or more, but finish it in one day, then it wouldn’t feel like much of an accomplishment. The more time you spend on something, the more important it becomes. I wish I could find something to dedicate my time to, rather than wasting hours on MapleStory. Programming would be nice, but I have such a hard time thinking of what applications I would build. Maybe that’s why going to college is better off after all. You discover who you are and what you want to do with your life, and on top of that you can get a job doing what you love. Time, all within due time. Growing up as a kid, going into middle school, then branching out into the world further by joining high school, and eventually into college. From college you may start a family or create your own business, but either way, it takes time. Time allows us to track memories, down to a specific date, whether with a photo or with a text message. Time can mean so many things to all sorts of people, what does time mean to you?

iunno, time seems to always go slow for me. I like it because I got more time to do stuff.
It’s wild that you say that! Like I mentioned in the blog, I feel like it goes by so fast. One minute I’ll be messing around in Photoshop and what feels like 5 minutes has actually been 3 or 4 hours..Which reminds me of the movie Inception o_O
Time has been moving way too fast for me. Due dates come and then when I realize it, my assignments are all weeks late ;-;
First, single-cellular organisms appeared. They mutated. The ones that weren’t fit for the conditions they were in died off. Our origins are organisms that have survived the conditions they were in. Time, light, seasons are all conditions that we share with all of our ancestors. Of course time would feel right. It’s programmed right into our DNA. For example, animal shedding is based on the amount of light and the weather. Another huge condition is
gravity.
Of course, I can understand that you speak of time more figuratively. In that sense…

Yeah, time is pretty awesome.

The time he’s referring to clearly isn’t the magazine. Besides, what you said just made no sense whatsoever. Time is an imaginary concept created by man. -_- It’s not “programmed right into our DNA.”

yey David! 😀

Time is so transient. I wish there were more hours in a day. But I guess that would throw off the natural balance in the world.

Err, you might want to take a look at relativistic physics. Time isn’t imaginary at all. It interacts with distance and forces in a measurable way.
There’s a ton of BS in here. I don’t wanna hurt people’s feelings, so I’ll just say you guys should definitely stick to your day jobs. Philosophy is not for you.

The word itself is made up (imaginary). Time itself without being a word just exists. Just like humans, humans have names, but names are made up. We just are, we just exist. There is no answer, there is only philosophy, religion, and science, that tries to make sense of it all.

Philosophy is for waiters.
OT: I would interject but really, it doesn’t matter. Time, locality and spin are all relative to perception, Tar. It’s been established, but I just realized you said it’s not imaginary, not that it isn’t relative so yeah, my bad. Thought I understood that to be what David meant. He believes that because time is relative it’s more of a concept. Though that’s by no means imaginary.
That’s an easy question.
Time is merely something that nobody has.
-_- I didn’t say that time is imaginary. I said it, as a concept, is. You can’t arbitrarily divide time up and call it a second. That’s totally made by man. EDIT: I guess I can see what it means to be programmed into DNA. I just did not like the way it was phrased. Whatever.
EDIT: y’know what? I’m not even gonna bother.
Tarheel, we can say whatever shit we want. We don’t need TSA here, thx
EDIT: y’know what? I’m not even gonna bother.
I’m not saying they’re right. I’m just saying time is real and measurable (that value will differ based on a number of things like perspective of the observer and object in question, but it is still measurable). It’s not tangible, but that doesn’t mean it’s imaginary. Units are arbitrary, and are as imaginary as the value “2” is.
I think people are confusing the word “time” here with the concept of time. Words are man-made and used to convey a certain concept, feeling, idea, etc. Time itself is a real concept just as much as space is. I’d liken it to entropy: impossible to hold or percieve, but measurable with clear effects on reality.
@Cougar: See the second paragraph. Your blog talked about the concept of time. The word “time” has nothing to do with the concept. That’s a logical fallacy of some sort, but I’m too lazy to go find the proper name for it. All this talk of words should probably be spun off into a blog/thread about language and how it functions as a tool for communication between people. It’s not relevant to the initial discussion that was about the concept of time.
@Arly: I never said anything to the contrary. I said that what was being said in this blog wasn’t very intelligent, and that’s all. Before people try to get into a philosophical discussion about time, they should probably try to understand it. This requires a bit more knowledge than 60 seconds = 1 minute and 60 minutes = 1 hour. Also, people were spouting opinions they’d created as fact, and that’s just annoying.

In everyone’s statements and my blog, you are trying to find logical reasoning. We can speak our minds and say what we want, whether it be logical or way out in left field. If you find people’s comments unintelligent, keep it to yourself. Bashing on people about it, isn’t going to make you look smarter.

Again, I never said you couldn’t say whatever you want. This is a pretty relaxed site in terms of what content we tolerate. Part of being able to say what you want is voicing criticism. That’s what I’m doing.
I don’t think you quite understand what logic means, but that’s besides the point. I have issues with people making ridiculous, nonsensical comments that go against reality. I also have issues with conclusions reached through faulty reasoning. If I read something I disagree with, I’m going to let you know about it. That’s how the system works.
You have the right to an opinion. There is no right to having your opinion be respected. I hope no one’s taking anything I’m saying as personal. It’s what being said that I disagree with, not the people themselves.
Well looky here. A cougar. Nice….niiiice
EDIT: OHGAWD A MALE COUGAR! WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!? IS A MALE COUGAR STILL CALLED A COUGAR!? MAYBE MAYBE…MOUNTAIN LION!? OR PUMA? GAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!~
OT: Time is money. I’m wasting money right now. I should be studying for the bio final that was scheduled AFTER the AP test. [like wtf]

Here I am, trying to understand this conversation, and I read this post.
Now I’m thinking about mature woman doing younger guys.
Goddammit Froggy.

At first it just seemed like you were calling people out for no reason, calling their comments unintelligent. Now that you have gone more into detail and expressed why you have a problem with the comments, I can agree to an extent. Therefore, I do apologize for my previous comment. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

They aren’t really mature if they have to bone younger boys and go clubbing and stuff to feel younger.
*Shiver* I hate Cougars. They talk about how wrong it is for a guy to be with woman much less older than he is but they think it’s totally okay for them.
What a bunch of fake broads.
Time is going much too fast in my opinion.

Time is the 4th dimension that energy and mass (a concentration of energy) interact through. Just like a dimension in space, the concept of time isn’t tangible. However, it’s just as measurable as the distance between me and the nearest Bojangles. It’s passing is relative, and thus dependent on the reference frame of the observer and the observed.
If regards to ourselves, the rate at which time passes remains constant. This is because you are both the observer and the observed, so the difference in reference frames is always 0. Differences in the rate time seems to pass at is due to the way our minds perceive the passing of time. We mark the passing of time by the occurrence of notable events. Thus, boring days take forever because there are very few notable events that occur. Fun days fly by because notable events occur one after the other. It’s one of the countless biases our minds impose upon our perception of the universe around us.
