Money Pit

Good news: I’ve lost most of my liquid assets!

Okay, that’s probably not good news. I melted all of my doubloons in Puzzle Pirates back into Pieces of Eight so I could play high-end Texas Hold ‘Em. As you can probably tell, that didn’t end well. (Fortunately, my real-life assets are intact!)

So, during the weekends, I completely liquidated 300k PoE. That was pretty much all I had left of what PoE I had on hand. Most of my buy-ins to a 20k-200k table were 20k-50k; I’m not keen on losing 200k on a single all-in. I was actually ahead for a good duration of the time; thing was, I didn’t gain enough to cash out (like, even by a reasonable standard). So I ended up going south… like Antarctic south. Pocket aces didn’t help me, king-jack off suit didn’t help me, queens didn’t help me. And yes, neither did low pairs and scramble cards. Everything was conspired against me–but that was how PP poker worked: river catches were hysterically common, and the cards will do whatever it takes to either beat the losing player to the ground, or give a bad beat to the winning player.

So why is the loss of all of my monetary funds a good thing by any standards?

Well, for starters, it sort of helped me kick the acute addiction to PP poker (acute as in once I jump in, I ain’t coming back). If I actually do get a good working mouse, maybe I’ll get back to pillaging; it was fun soloing sloops and fanchuans, taking out brigand kings in absurdly lopsided battles (lopsided as in against me). I’d been planning to go on a sea monster hunt for a while, but I can’t, because I don’t have the endurance to play for 3 hours straight anymore (WTF? I know aging does reduce endurance, but I’m 18, for sake!).

Plus, now nothing’s blocking my fridays and sundays (poker takes time and money). Now, maybe I can do something worthwhile, like help my community, or watch videos of other people making complete fools out of themselves/others. Speaking of which…

Good marketing, that is.
