So finally after what might’ve been a solid few weeks a new blog appears! Better yet, it’s from someone that’s never posted a blog before. A formal welcome to that member, hope your stay here is a good one (even though you’ve been lurking around already). Just how did you discover this site though?..
I think this community has aged so much that our tastes and shtuff have completely shifted. Hue. But I guess gaming is still a big component to most of the guys here, not sure about the girls anymore… but I don’t think there’s any around – actively posting anyway.
My life has been completely uninteresting. University is university, and despite writing a whole rage-blog about getting to meet Arladerus in real life, I still haven’t managed to execute the plan.
Shame really.
Between studying, taking tests, doing assignments, cooking, eating, watching TV shows (incl. anime), sleeping and playing Guild Wars 2/League of Legends, there’s not a lot of time for anything else. I’m sure it’s the same for most of you guys in University, or in their later years of high school.
We have more social stuff to attend to… more people to see, more places to be.
Sad thing is a lot of the time I’m just sitting in my chair, with no pants on (don’t worry I live with 3 other people and none of them care), clicking away on pixels and watching them go boom. I do find that quite enjoyable.
Now — I’m gonna dedicate the last bit of this blog on gaming, ’cause it’s still somewhat interesting.
If you have not played Guild Wars 2, and you still have a shred of faith in the MMO genre, you are missing out. It may not be for everyone, and unfortunately it does cost 60$ to purchase (no sub fees!), but essentially Arenanet (the developers) have taken the genre and really pushed it forward. It’s not exactly super innovative or anything but it’s just so polished and well executed that you look past the minor bugs and you can really enjoy the game.
The world is really one giant party – at any place, any time, some event may pop up, and although it starts with a few members, it can soon roll into a gigantic event, sometimes leading to the takedown of a humongous dragon that takes coordinated efforts between small groups, or everyone gets completely obliterated.
For example, we start with destroying ice crystals, which then spawn the dragon as it descends from the sky:
Then once it lands, it creates a crystal barrier and we have to destroy it with giant charr-zooka weapons that launch rockets at it.
And then finally we get to take down its wings, before attacking it head on and obliterating it from the map.
Now, the caveat is that these dragons are only in high level areas – starting around at level 50, so you do have to get there first. But it’s really easy, since everything you do in the game essentially gets you exp. Do a quest? exp. Craft an item? exp. Discover a new area? exp. Cut down a tree? exp. Honestly after making my first level 80, an elementalist:
I just couldn’t put it down, I played for 2 weeks and maxed it out again, this time a warrior:
Oh and if you’re wondering why they’re all girl avatars it’s because the guy avatars have terrible hairstyles. Until the expansion introduces new ones, all the human guys look ridiculously emo, or ridiculously lame. My main guy which is named after my ign ‘Dervd’ I still haven’t touched yet just because I’ve been trying to get 100% world completion…
The environment’s really rich, here’s some screenshots of bosses n stuff:
And some screenshots of the world:
Meatoberfest! Relevant ’cause it’s october.
A quest where you have to transform into a bull to train other cows/bulls:
Again — myriad of events and stuff you can do. And it gets exponentially funner with friends, although I prefer to do much of it solo, since it feels like an accomplishment. C:
Ah, if you read this far and you’re still interested, I do have an extra account that you can try the game with. I can’t promise that you can keep the account, but for the most part no one’s going to use it ever… so if you’re interested talk to me and I’ll send the info and authenticate it for you. Just add me on skype, if I don’t have you already. If you have steam or something that’ll work too, just drop me a message if I’m online.
Apart from GW2, not much else… League of Legends world championships are TOMORROW! Go go TPA. 😀
Ciao.
