Lavina was not entirely surprised with his behavior. Physical attraction made men do and say things they wish they hadn’t. But this man’s secret seemed something one would never reveal, even with the finest wine and the most beautiful woman. Lavina spotted the owner out of the corner of her eye, but it seemed he had not the heard the man speaking in hushed tones. He was however watching to make sure Lavina behaved herself. She had to make sure she did not knock over a table in disgust.

The man was distasteful in his showing, obviously trying to impress Lavina. She wasn’t. But with the owners gaze on her, she set aside her horrified thoughts and responded to the man, trying to be as ladylike as she could.

“Sir, my job is to serve you, not speak of my political opinions” Lavina cursed herself for saying this. “As for this secret society of yours, it certainly sounds exciting!” She slowly moved closer to him, and whispered in his ear, “I know that under your guidance, I would make plenty of friends. Even though you are more than enough”.

She stepped back slightly and reached for his mug on the table, stopping just in front of him so their eyes met. “But alas, I cannot leave my job here at the tavern. The owner would be extremely displeased”. She moved away from him now.

“Now if you will excuse me, sir, I have more costumers to attend to. Good-day!” She walked back to the counter where the owner sat, who nodded in approval at her playfulness with the guest. He always told her to leave them coming back for more, no matter how slimy they were. Lavina hated herself; this suggestive behavior was the opposite of what she truly wanted to do.

But she did receive some startling information from this foolish male. Its legitimacy was questionable, being that he was intoxicated on the wine and Lavina’s appearance, but the risk that it was useful was not worth taking. She quickly formulated a lie to tell the owner.

“Sir, we seem to have run out of peanuts. Shall I run to Mr. Tallis and get some more?” she asked, secretly praying he would not check the store room and find a large sack there. He simply looked at Lavina and gave her a grunt and a quick nod.

Lavina tossed aside the mans mug and left the tavern in a hurry.

The King would be pleased with her information.
