[Background]
Born to the family of a high-ranking scribe in a temple of , Horatio was raised to follow in his father’s footsteps and serve the temple as a scribe for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, he was born with a bit of an adventurous spirit and hated the dull work of perpetual inscription. He often tried to run away from the temple, and although the temple’s clerics did not oppose the idea, his parents did, and always recaptured him. His early life was one of intense frustration.

As his seventeenth cycle began, a temple of , the of chaos, declared that the temple of would fall within the week. Horatio’s temple clerics began preparing for the attack, issuing weapons and training all of the temple servants in basic combat. Two days after the announcement, a force of well-equipped warriors attacked. The temple personnel were no match for the assailants, and most were very quickly slaughtered. As a swordsman closed on Horatio’s parents, he discarded his unwieldy temple-issue maul, grabbed a long bamboo pole and ambushed the swordsman, managing to incapacitate a more experienced warrior. Horatio’s parents ordered him to run away, anywhere. He grabbed a few nearby items, and gladly obeyed.

For the last twelve years, Horatio Feth has wandered the lands, preferring a life of adventure to one of dreary peace. He has learned much about the land and its inhabitants during this time, taken more than a few crash courses in combat training, and some of his more virtuous actions have earned him a favourable reputation among the travelers of . He continues wandering, going wherever fate decides to take him.

[Personality]
Horatio is very easily bored, constantly seeking new sources of adventure, or at least entertainment. He particularly enjoys the thrill of combat, especially when using his spear as a quarterstaff to prolong a fight. Still, he is a fairly compassionate person, and tries fight only when he needs to. He values honesty, optimism, perfectionism and other virtues. Despite his lifestyle, he also respects law and organization. He despises those who harm others without a very good reason. He is somewhat soft-spoken, but likes to crack jokes (usually not the insulting variety) to add levity to the situation. When he explains anything, he prefers to be very clear and concise.

[Appearance]
Horatio’s usual appearance betrays his nomadic lifestyle. His unkempt black hair is usually held in a ragged ponytail, and his facial hair is styled in a van dyke. (moustache + goatee) He has soft green irises, and a fully developed jaw. He is fairly lean, but quite muscular, and stands at about 5 feet 9 inches.
