Creeping out of the bed, you decide the direct approach is best, and you swing the door open. The light blinds you as your eyes adjust to the new environment. Closing your eyes, you don’t hear anything yet. A good sign?
Finally opening your eyes, you look around. You are in a tavern, but the place is deserted, and destroyed. Upturned tables, broken bottles, and smashed windows. The light is coming from outside, which also seems to be deserted. To your left is the bar, with a cashier and some unbroken bottles of whiskey; to your right is the door leading outside, onto a stone road. You cannot see past the windows so you don’t know what is out there. There seems to be random clothing and belongings strewn across the room amidst the chaos and destruction. Behind you is of course, the door you came through.
A draft blow through the open door. You shiver, and realize you are topless. Clutching your chest, you back up until your body hits the door you opened.
You hear a crash outside, loud but filtered. It sounds like an explosion. Your fingers brush against the key in your pocket as you wonder what to do next.
