ParticipantMind.
First humans’ mind was simple.
Kill to eat, survive for next day.If we want to compare the first humans’ brain, it should be similar or equal to ours, in the present.
Now, if we want to compare what they thought about and what we think about, it’s really different.
In the present, our minds are influenced by new technology and methods to extremely simplify everyday tasks which actually makes us to think about other things, and new models. In other words, the society’s making humans’ mind change. What if, in an undeterminated point, our mind becomes equal to everyone’s and we lack of creativity?
If our society makes a model for our mind that hasn’t the freedom that it used to have, indirectly, without wanting it.
What if that happens and technology, religion, everything starts to fail? For example, a lot of people are thinking right now about the next revolutionary social-networking tool, like facebook.
In ten years, no one will think of that. When the first humans started to imagine tools that helped them hunting, like knives out of bones, and then created them, make new types of knives and tools, there was no need to create more.
What if our society makes it so we don’t need more?
What would happen then?14 January 2010 at 11:50 #10854Reve
ParticipantWell it’s nice to think about and imagine. But none of it will probably happen in any of our lifetimes, if ever.
If everything starts to fail, we’re screwed. But why on earth would that happen to the entire world (I’m assuming you mean all humanity)? Can you provide some possible scenarios?
The example you gave doesn’t really connect with your previous point, at least, from my point of view. The example is just speaking of everyone ditching facebook and forgetting about it possibly in favor of newer social networking sites, but the point was about indirect, unwanted restrictions of the mind. The way I interpret it, you’re saying that everyone will suddenly become retarded and all the man made things will start going down. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Human nature hasn’t changed a single bit all through our history books and technological advances. It isn’t likely to change anytime soon.

ParticipantThe 60s was about conformity. The beatnik generation brought them through to the 70s. Clear case that what you described will never happen.
EDIT: My bad, it was the 50s and 60s.

ParticipantYou’re talking about stuff that’s right up my class’ ally. It’s called “Rise and Fall of Civilizations” and has to do with certain factors like that. Man I’m glad I have this class.
