ParticipantI’d like to dedicate a thread to a horrible game/community for all to yell and spit at its flaws, as there are many.
1. Leeching: I don’t have anything personal about it, but if anyone does come up to me and yell at me for not leeching, I will serious jack up that person’s teeth worse than a skull dropped from the Empire State Building. I do not denounce the use of leeching, but I do not approve of it either. It’s the easy way out, and like all easy ways out, a lot of potential experience is missed, a lot of the goods that is what Maplestory was supposed to be. I don’t care for those who leech on a non-main if they want to skip the boring parts, but it’s really bad for the first-timers, those who just made their characters and see the disgusting 2D motion picture for the first time and find out that there’s leeching, it negatively promotes it to that idiot.
2. Difficulty: Nexon has made it too easy to play Maplestory, what with the family system and the 2x Exp and the easy redoable quests that give tons of experience and items, getting to level 100 and making 100mil has become a joke. I remember when people actually appreciated level 50s and 60s, when steelies were diamonds and Zakum was the center of power. Now, people have onyx apples, all the Zakum helmets and Horntail necklaces in the world, and are complaining that they can’t beat Pink Been.
3. Banning System: I really do think that Nexon has really screwed over this one; many innocents have been banned, and their systems are more obsolete than stone spears and slingshots. If Nexon wishes to hold such a large community, they should have known there to be many potential criminals, and should really keep up the pace; if an 18-year-old teenager is able to hack into the game or system with relative ease, then I really think that their protection program(s) are a palisade of sticks.
4. Cash: Nexon is a greedy bastard. We don’t need to go over that, but for the sake of yelling into the computer, might as well. The MTS fails worse then the guy who keeps refreshing a rick-roll page hoping to watch that awesome maplestory clip that he was promised. What tax system would make the price 5 times over the lowest amount? 110 immediately translates to 617; shouldn’t taxes be fractions of prices, not a dilation of them? While they do compensate for certain errors (I’ve known people who, due to an error with the monster book, another flaw, have been reimbursed with items, monster cards and maple points, potentially), it really doesn’t help in any long run. Several versions of Maplestory have permanent cash shop clothing, which would be extremely positive to the community, but seeing Nexon’s pace currently, it seems ungodly unlikely.
Now, although these flaws exist, I still play the game. Party Quest and Family System aside (the latter I did to teach others about it), I’ve become quite an anti-socialist, living off the land, avoiding places such as the Free Market unless absolutely necessary, and, aside from some real life friends and their companions, have no buddies and guilds. And those buddies that are on the list are seldom, if ever, on.
Let’s hear your stories, as here is a place to spit on that damn game.

ParticipantWouldn’t this be better as a blog?
Anyway, to hell with NEXON. I’d rather play a PS.

ParticipantI didn’t put this as a blog because well… it’s been done so many times. Rather let it stay in the forums so that when needed, just drag it up. Digging up blogs is a lot harder than forum threads.

ParticipantI agree with you the whole way. I play Maple as a hermit (not the class) too. The MTS is ridiculous and the only thing I would pay for is the pets. I seen too much drama over leeching. What’s the point of the game if you’re not even playing?

ParticipantThe guild system is nothing more than an exaggerated buddy list. The same can be said for the family system, only more exploitative.

Leveling is slow regardless of whether you have those. I even tested it out by getting those items, it still took me 3 hours to level up from 61 to 62 (this was before I got hacked btw o_O)

ParticipantHad you tried leeching?

ParticipantLeeching is nerfed after they introduced EXP curve. Level 50 Clerics can no longer gain exp from a 150 Night Lord killing a big boss if they are partied, which was the fastest way to get exp. Even a level 8 Beginner can’t get exp from robots that a level 30 kills anymore.

ParticipantIt’s always been easy to play Maplestory. Just takes time is all.
The fail that is the game itself has nothing to do with what company runs it. Though Nexon creates its own generous amount of fail as well.

Every odd day there is a time period of 2x exp, you can buy 2x exp, the family system provides yet more 2x exp, and the string of PQs/quests from 1-50/1-70 makes getting to level 50/70 easier than ever. Leeching is simply another way, but not necessarily the most efficient way of leveling. If I tried now, I could get an assassin to 50 in a few months, which is an improvement from when it took half a year or more. You can’t deny that the effort needed to ascend is a lot less than before.
