ParticipantI think she’s taking too much into her role; she receives some popularity after singing with that god-awful accent and all of a sudden, she’s on a level above everyone else.
It’s like those cliche movies where the nerd in a high school becomes popular, gets an ego, and ruins his life, then “learns a lesson.” She’s at the ego stage, she thinks that what she saying has a profound impact on what other peoples’ opinions should be. She think she’s big enough to act like a douche.
And in reality, it’s totally fine hating on her, because if our opinion isn’t worth anything, we shouldn’t even be having a discussion.
It isn’t really fair to relate boring pop music to the whole of Western civilization, while many Americans and Canadian do listen to those kind of songs and enjoy them, it’s because those songs cater to the simple-minded and easy-going, you don’t have to be in a clique or group to like that.
Songs from rock bands or rap artists, however, are all of a sudden a “different genre” just because you have to be different to listen to it. They aren’t mainstream, and so they don’t really have as big of an influence because they don’t “represent” the majority of music listeners. (They comes with the downside of snobbyness, you listen to obscure bands/rappers that ‘no one has ever heard of’ and you’re somehow allowed to look down your nose at them)

ParticipantWhat happened to the good ol’ pop?
Also, I believe that rap went only downhill since its beginning of fame. AKA, after Run D.M.C.

Nah, you’re just not listening to the right artists. It’s like there’s two types of rap.
1. is like smoking, getting bitches, having your swag on etc…
2. is like you know, telling you never to give up cuz you might go far and stuff. Some artists, like Eminem for example, still stick with the basics and rap about things that actually matter.
In the old days, with Notorious B.I.G. and stuff, rappers only did path #2, that’s why it looks so different.
I dunno, just listen to some underground shit.

I’d debate that that’s all there is, but that certainly does make up a very large portion of all rap and hip hop. I’d agree that most of the mainstream stuff is generic and shitty. Like any genre, of course, there are some notable exceptions (Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Andre 3000, B.o.B, etc.).
You forgot the other big portion of rap–talking about how awesome you are:

lmfao, yeah.
But people like Lupe fade in and out though, like, I’m not a huge, huge, Lupe fan. But the last song I heard him in was Past My Shades- B.o.B ft.Lupe Fiasco. And that was a few months ago. Again, I’m not a big fan on him so I don’t follow him much. But I’m just saying…I wouldn’t really call him a mainstream artist. Maybe a sometimes radio friendly rapper

Yeah, Nass mainly got it right with the two types…of course type 1 is now all generic bullshit but w.e
Only rap I ever listen to if I get away from my metal is type 2, mainly because it actually has meaning…ie:Rappers back in da’ day -
