ParticipantFor a while now I’ve been thinking of merging almost all the sub forums into two forums. This is to try to solve three problems:
1) To further differentiate blogs and threads.
2) To “fix” inactivity in some of the less popular sub forums.
3) People keep posting threads on the wrong sub forums. >>;The following would then happen:
General Chat, Computing, Entertainment, and Games would be merged into a single forum.
The Train Wreck and Forum Games will be merged into a second forum.
After hours will be removed.
Future introductions will be made as blogs and not on the forums.
Site Discussion will be merged into the main forum, announcements will get their own special, non-forum based section.
QoTW will be made into its own section. The suggestion thread will be moved to the main forum and stickied.

ParticipantSeems like a good idea. Should announcements be combined with QoTWs though?

ParticipantThis might also be a good moment to bring up the new distinction for blog vs. forums and the new rules about blogs.

I see. So two regular forum sections and two non-forum sections overall? And what are the new blog rules mentioned by TarTar McGarGar?

Nothing hard and fast, but we were talking about relaxing the rules on blogs (word limits etc.) so that they can be a bit more casual. In V3, the distinction between blogs and a forum topic will be about whether the focus is expressing one’s self (blogs) or creating a discussion (threads). In other words, is the focus on the person, or the community?

Sounds good. A lot of blogs and new bloggers get shunned right away since their blogs are too small, and the approach that some people take might irk these newcomers a bit in my opinion.

ParticipantWill the removed userlist be returned? Will there be a new list of blogs or as Lith asked, a search function?

List of blogs… No. Though, there will be the ability to filter by tags.

Just do whatever. Usually your decisions turn out to be fine. In fact, usually your ideas work out the best anyway.
