Games always, and will always rule. Today’s games are amazing and so we yesterday’s. Tommorow’s the same story.

You can’t compare two completely different generations objectively like that, without having to consider the age of participants, the coding difficulty, the resources that companies had, the resources families had.

And don’t try to compare quantity either, saying there’s more good games back then compared to now. What are you defining as back then, exactly? A specific year? A generation of consoles?

    As in generation.

This generation of games sucked. And they will never get any better until people realize fighting the aliens, or being a stealthy ninja, having some super uber mutation powers just aren’t cool anymore.

But hey, games don’t need creativity.

    It’s all about graphics amirite?

This generation of games was pretty generic if you ignore the Wii. That’s a big if, though.

    Your point?

Metroid Prime 2 is newer than Metroid Prime 1

    Once again, what’s your point?
Just because Metroid Prime 2 was harder than 1, doesn’t mean that games get harder over time.
You can’t take one game, no matter how good it is, and use it to generalize the entire generation of Video Games.

Jesus Zappy why does it seem like you’re always wrong

I’ve never seen anyone try so hard but never be right

no offense dude but it’s the funniest shit to me (I’m not flaming you i really find it funny)

I wasn’t going to post in this thread because i figued it was obvious that games today are significantly easier than older games

Games nowadays don’t even punish you for losing and then you add nintendo’s casual focus which makes every game braindead shallow so that “anyone” can play…

Zappy I havent played Sonic Heroes but have you ever assumed it seems harder because Sonic 2 takes about an hour and a half to beat and sonic heroes takes longer?

The Galaxy level you’re referring to isn’t even that hard, it just seems ungodly after you play through the snoozefest Galaxy was

Have you ever played through Super Mario World’s 8 Special Levels? That’s difficult (The first time you go through them at least)

IN the end i guess it really doesnt matter though since this generation sucks so hard regardless, i hope someone revolutionizes something fast

    I object.

You see, the boss battles in Sonic Heroes, are harder than the final bosses of Sonic Adventure 2. (I leveled all the bosses flat in Sonic Adventure 2 in less than 20 seconds). It gave me a chuckle inside, when you said “I haven’t played Sonic Heroes,” because, how would you know… if you haven’t played it?

You see, it is very likely you based this assumption on the Mario Games, based on the fact you included only “new/easy” games made by Nintendo, which is a family company, and therefore children would also be a target audience.

Games made for the Atari 2600 (Pitfall), were older and genuinely harder than either of the “old” games you described in your post.

That game verged on near impossibility, It perturbs me why people would want to play a game (one person actually wanted something that hard) that infuriatingly hard anyway that they cannot get past the first level. If you have played it.

In a nutshell, there are hard games and easy games today, some series have gotten easier and some harder.

Pitfall is not hard. It’s impossible.

There’s a difference. I have it for PC. That’s a broken game, like Big Rigs.

And what about Red Alert 3? That standalone expansion for it (Uprising)?

That game was stupidly hard, most likely because you are given a limited set of units to complete a mission, lose them, and you are dead.

    Also, no online mode.

Zappy, I don’t want to sound mean, but it sounds like you’re trying to cover up your over-pretentious fuck up.
Your initial argument was that new games have gotten harder today than before, and now you’re either trying to hide that fact, or you’re just being stupid and not admitting that you’ve changed your mind.

You’re playing with the big leagues boy. Scrap your onesie and lose the training wheels.

    LMAO PITFALL. HAHAHA.

I enjoy Halo 3. I feel the controls of games have improved immensely. The only decent FPSs I know of on N64 are Perfect Dark and Goldeneye, and Perfect Dark was Goldeneye’s remake. Games like Shinobi (PS2), God of War, Onimusha, Shadow of Colossus, Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry spawned with the PS2 and Xbox (mainly PS2). Let me tell you, those are hard games. You can’t judge a FPS by hardness, because you can just give the AI radars to always know where you are and always shoot headshots.

The only way games in the past would be made harder is by:

    1. Reducing timers,
    2. Making enemies do x2985735 damage,
    3. Lag and f*ck up when you least want it to, and make sure you don’t make it to the next platform and die with you’re at the end of the game with one live left.

I think now, by giving enemies more intelligent AI (other than FPSs), hard modes of games are in fact, fun. You can’t compare 20 years ago “hard” and today’s hard though.

Hey guys remember when i Sonic Heroes was definitely harder than Sonic 2?

Really Zappy is the only one? Actually i dont remember saying that myself

Remember when i said Sonic 2 and Super Mario World were hard? Neither do I (I was using them purely for comparison)

You can’t change what i say to prove your faulty point Zappy

No i’m not referring to the Mario Series exclusively, it was an example

I brought that up because everybody is following in Ninty’s steps because of their success doing that

Nintendo’s audience shift has affected the whole industry not just the Mario Series

You’re right there are hard and easy games but nowadays games are more easy, mainly because developers dont realize that the player should be at a disadvantage

We all get everybody wants to kickass but make them work at kicking ass, Like Devil May Cry, these games are difficult and do it right that’s why they’re so awesome.

I’m the hero the odds should be against me not on my side

To straighten things out, I would like to say that I did not change your statement, You see, you stated that Sonic Heroes seemed harder only because it was longer, which signified that the overall message of this point is that “Sonic Heroes is no more harder than Sonic Adventure 2.” I also state the fact you didn’t play Sonic Heroes, as you admit, and therefore, you would most likely not know whether Sonic Heroes has more challenging sequences than Sonic Adventure 2.

I was offering a possible reason why you may have felt that way i never said: THE REASON THIS GAME IS HARDER EVEN THOUGH I HAVE NEVER PLAYED IT IS BLAH BLAH BLAH

So no, i totally didn’t say what you said i said, why would i say with confidence Sonic Heroes isn’t hard if I never played it?

If that is so, then ok.

Although since Lithium pointed out that I have made a “fuck up” and have not admitted I have changed my original statement, I shall admit so.

But it’s not really about the difficulty of a game, it’s more of the overall experience. Would you want to die for the umpteenth time at a boss you couldn’t beat, get upset, then throw your controller? Or make it so hard you eventually give up and cannot proceed? Difficulty does not constitute fun factor. Like… let’s say… Bioshock?

First of all, this entire thread poses the question of difficulty, so your argument is invalid.

Second of all, Bioshock is not your typical FPS. Every scenario has an infinite amount of ways you can do them, and if you’re smart, you’ll do fine.

I never died once in Bioshock, even on my second playthrough on hard.

I remember when I was 9, I spent like 5 mins on that game before quitting because nothing seemed to make sense at all. x_x

    Anyway, I’m with Arladerus there.
