What’s with all the new users? From their profile stats, they don’t view any blogs, write any blogs, submit fragments, or even read any blogs.
I think Vusys said that they were some kind of spammer-type people, whose function is beyond him (and me, frankly).
They’re usually hired by micro-companies, they’re paid small amounts, like 5$ or so, to advertise on any site you can submit user content. Usually they take a screenshot as proof.
People doing these could be from anywhere, probably China or India or the sort, but also in the States, where kids will do anything for money. :p

I noticed that Vusys did another purge with a few users (which recently bumped Tharticus to the most recent user). Shortly after, another dozen appeared. Is there an actual breathing sentient human behind one of those accounts?

No, they’re just spam bots. See David’s posts on why they come here. So far, about 70% click the validation link they’re emailed. Of those none have actually viewed a page on the site afterwards.
