“Well, thank you kindly, Sir Orbec. I will take my leave” she bowed, and hopped onto the horse. She wouldn’t be keeping it, of course. The nearby stable would welcome her.

Lavina galloped away into the night (lol cliche), but not before stopping by a certain Mr. Talis. If she did not return with some peanuts, the owner would have a fit.

Lavina sighed. Sharing her name would do no harm. Anyone who came to the tavern knew it anyways.

    “Lavina Cheviot. And you sir?”

Lavina was growing tired of this back and forth. She sighed. “Sir, I still cannot tell you this information. Let’s not waste any more time. I have to return to work, and you, being a gentleman, should escort me back.” She was hoping he had a horse handy, she was not up to walking all the way back to the Golden Lizard.

“That would not explain why you are roaming such a deserted part of the castle grounds. As for me, I told you my matters with the King is private. If you need to know, the King will tell you himself. If I was escaping, would I would be coming down from one of the nicest rooms in the castle? I would suspect the dungeon is more suitable for that kind of thing”

Lavina raised her eyebrow, awaiting another witty response.

In the midst of looking around, Lavina found herself suddenly facing the cloaked man from the tavern. What is he doing here? He couldn’t be working for King…could he?

“I suppose it isn’t appropriate behavior, sir. But I think due to the circumstances, the King wont mind too much. As for my invitation to stay there…I had business with the King, and that is all I can tell you. However, I could ask why you, sir, are wandering the castle grounds. You are not dressed like a guard, or anyone else who works for the King for that matter. Is there any reason you are here trespassing?” Lavina asked. She could play this game too.

Lavina was taken aback. She had not expected that the King would make her stay in the castle! She needed to leave. If she did not get back to the tavern within a reasonable time, the owner would definitely start asking questions. She looked at the wenches that were escorting her to her room. Unlike herself, these two were not serving wenches, and obviously did not have the brains that Lavina had. It would be easy enough to fool them.

When they reached the guest room, Lavina was once again shocked. She had never had the chance to be in such an extravagant place before. It was a shame that she would not be able to enjoy it, but certain things were more important. She looked back at the two woman, who seemed to be waiting for Lavina’s word to take their leave.

“Be sure to thank the King for this lovely room, but do tell him I wont be needing it for very long. Send him my apologies” she said sternly. She knew they simply took orders, not taking any deeper meaning in the words she, or anyone else, said.

“yes, my lady”, they said in unison, curtsying and then departing. Lavina ran to the balcony as soon as they were out of site. She did not have much time. She grabbed a linen sheet from the bed in the room, and tied one end securely to the railing on the balcony. She took a deep breath, and carefully climbed to the other side of the railing, resting her feet on the edge. Then, she began to slowly lower herself to the group, keeping a firm grip on the sheet. She finally got close enough to the group, and she hopped off, landing lightly on the dirt.

Great. Now to figure out how to get back

Lavina stared wide eyed at the King. He asked her the one piece of information she could not give. She could describe what he looked like, sounded like, his drinking habits, his experience with women (she was certain it was zero), but she did not know his name. She knew most of the regulars, but this one was not around long enough for them to be fully acquainted. She closed her eyes, and though. Maybe she had heard the name while working, or he has causally mentioned it to her in his breif conversation.

NOTHING! This man had asked her to join his secret society, ordered booze, and even implied sexual relations, but failed at giving Lavina his name. Curse these drunken bastards!

She gulped and looked back up the King. His grin was intimidating. “Alas Your Highness, he did not give me his name…But if you would give me the chance, I can surely find this crucial information! He has been a recurring costumer lately at my place of work, and I know that I can get him to reveal his name! Please, Your Highness!” This was the only time Lavina could beg at a mans feet and not feel ashamed.

“Greetings, Your Highness” Lavina said, as she bowed. This was one man she truly respected. One who was able to bring sorrow to an entire land with just a simple order.

“I understand it is rather late, but I came across some information that I thought Your Highness would be interested in. It seems the villagers are planning a rebellion of some sort. There is some sort of…society. They call themselves the Cross society. I am not very sure of how reliable this information is, but I think it would be best if Your Highness looked into at least. There is a geat risk that it could be true, in which case, ignoring it would not be wise” she explained.

Lavina looked at the King for his reaction.

    (((LOL David)))

Lavina couldn’t help but roll her eyes in front of the costumer. She figured that since she wasn’t at the tavern, it was okay. She was however, slightly taken aback by Louis reverting back to his regular speech.

“Aye, sir. I have information that I think he would find very useful. Would you be so kind as to maybe escort me to the castle? Its awfully late, and I fear the streets are not safe for a lady such as myself”

Truth be told, the last thing Lavina wanted was to get a ride from this fellow, but it was in fact getting late, and she needed to get to the castle as soon as possible.

Every young girl wished of meeting the man of her dreams ride up to her on his trusted steed. This handsome stranger’s hair would flow and his muscular arms would pull at the reigns , bringing the horse to a full stop before her, while she look at him, starry eyed.

    This was nothing like that.

For one thing, this man was no stranger. It was Louis, regular at the tavern. The Village idiot as he was so graciously called by the townsfolk. Lavina had never seem him sober while working, and he was consistently making a fool of himself in a pathetic attempt to impress the other patrons at the tavern. But right now, there seemed to be a different air about him.

For one thing, he was no speaking in his usual drunken slur. Lavina pondered for a moment. She was confused. What was the village idiot doing on a horse, riding to the castle, all while completely sober sounding?

“I am requesting an audience with the King of Vutalia. But you good sir,” she said, stepping in front of the horse, glaring at Louis “I might ask what business you have at the castle as well. Are you not normally at the tavern at this hour?”

Lavina quickened her pace; the sun was starting to set, and soon it wouldn’t be safe for her to walk around town. Luckily for her, she knew where she was going, and what the fastest route was. The castle was located in the center of the Vutalia, which was about 20 minutes walking distance from the Golden Lizard.

She walked the dirt roads, passing by run down homes and shops that had been forced to close down. While it was a sad sight, the tavern miraculously was still thriving in these hard times. No matter the woes of the town, alcohol and women were always a necessity. The tavern had just that.

She was approaching her destination, as she could make out the towers of the castle. It wasn’t until she got closer that she realized it would be hard to get an audience with the King. He was not one to talk to just anyone about any little matter. There was a good chance Lavina would not even make it past the Castle guards.

She shrugged it off. There was no point in going back to the tavern anyways. She continued off, now sprinting to the castle doors.

Lavina was not entirely surprised with his behavior. Physical attraction made men do and say things they wish they hadn’t. But this man’s secret seemed something one would never reveal, even with the finest wine and the most beautiful woman. Lavina spotted the owner out of the corner of her eye, but it seemed he had not the heard the man speaking in hushed tones. He was however watching to make sure Lavina behaved herself. She had to make sure she did not knock over a table in disgust.

The man was distasteful in his showing, obviously trying to impress Lavina. She wasn’t. But with the owners gaze on her, she set aside her horrified thoughts and responded to the man, trying to be as ladylike as she could.

“Sir, my job is to serve you, not speak of my political opinions” Lavina cursed herself for saying this. “As for this secret society of yours, it certainly sounds exciting!” She slowly moved closer to him, and whispered in his ear, “I know that under your guidance, I would make plenty of friends. Even though you are more than enough”.

She stepped back slightly and reached for his mug on the table, stopping just in front of him so their eyes met. “But alas, I cannot leave my job here at the tavern. The owner would be extremely displeased”. She moved away from him now.

“Now if you will excuse me, sir, I have more costumers to attend to. Good-day!” She walked back to the counter where the owner sat, who nodded in approval at her playfulness with the guest. He always told her to leave them coming back for more, no matter how slimy they were. Lavina hated herself; this suggestive behavior was the opposite of what she truly wanted to do.

But she did receive some startling information from this foolish male. Its legitimacy was questionable, being that he was intoxicated on the wine and Lavina’s appearance, but the risk that it was useful was not worth taking. She quickly formulated a lie to tell the owner.

“Sir, we seem to have run out of peanuts. Shall I run to Mr. Tallis and get some more?” she asked, secretly praying he would not check the store room and find a large sack there. He simply looked at Lavina and gave her a grunt and a quick nod.

Lavina tossed aside the mans mug and left the tavern in a hurry.

The King would be pleased with her information.

“Truly sorry sir, but there are other guests to attend to” she gave a quick smile to the cloaked man before turning away to get his drink. Lavina’s plastered grin faded instantly when she had her back to the man. It was foolish to think this one was not the like the several other brutes that came in each day. As she was preparing the ale, she heard the calls of another barbaric man, this one either already intoxicated, or simply a foolish young man with high hopes.

As much as she hated working in this environment, she could not show any trace of her true feelings. She wanted to throw a wine barrel at this particular gent, but was forced to meet his every disgusting demand. She poured a large mug with a maroon wine, and placed both drinks on a wooden tray. She was tempted to use it as a discus and make a clean cut through his neck, but instead put on her serving smile and glittering eyes and give both men their drink.

She placed the wine in front of the younger one. “Please let me know if there is anything else”

He was a sharp one, that was for sure. Lavina did a double take. This man was unlike the ones she normally came across. For one thing, his entire face was covered with a cloak. Lavina was used to being able to read a persons expression, but he was already a step ahead of her.

“Well, I suppose so, sir…” there was something about him that made her uncomfortable. “Your order, sir?”
