ParticipantI don’t think people may get the idea. sure, we do, but someone who bumps into the site and just gets a front page with stuff and sidebars with more stuff and stuff everywhere and stuff on the corners and stuff elsewhere won’t really understand what’s going on. Showing a splash page to someone that isn’t logged in / doesn’t have a vutales cookie (the cookie may just indicate to not to show the splash) explaining what the site is and a register form for those that liked the idea and wanted to register.

Scripts that supplement a style are ok only if there’s things that can’t be done in pure CSS.Get('ul')[0].removeChild(Get('.MenuItem')[4]) // come on, no one reads the qotw
This is really fragile and doesn’t work as intended for mods/ admins.
okay, say that I write it as a css style: I would have to inject it using js. same problem.
Use Stylish for
Firefox or
Chrome.
Opera has some sort of limited support too IIRC.
meh, i’m not really in the mood, wanna do it? 🙂

Install “delicious” font, pls. It’s free and gorgeous:link
there you go. do whatever you want with it. I didn’t feel like redoing the sidebar…
and I didn’t really test it on other areas of the website other than the front page. so if something looks broken, or my script makes a feature unusable, post here or send me a private message.Joaco
ParticipantVusys said: I was hoping it was a CSS skin until I saw the lipsum filler text. 🙁I thought you would realise it was photoshop while looking at the font rendering. Nevertheless, you use Ubuntu, and its rendering is quite good, so nevermind.

ParticipantHey vusys! Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
This is not a site though.
Regarding the repo, I thought about that before, but I had forgotten my ssh passphrase 🙁 anyway, I had to reset it, so here’s the repo:

BTW, I have to upgrade from Windows XP x86 to Windows 7 x64, since right now the OS can’t see more than 3.5GB RAM; I’m too lazy to backup though.

ParticipantI @font-face’d it so you don’t need to install a single font. Just a good browser.
P.S. you need cURL to be enabled. Go to php.ini, find line “;extension=php_curl.dll” and remove the semicolon if it hasn’t been done yet. Restart apache and done.

ParticipantThanks.
Main script:pastebin
Sorry for the mix of html/php.
To view this like I do, you will need to have installed the Delicious font (
link, it’s free), Helvetica LT Std font (though it’s only for the title, doesn’t make much of a difference), and fancybox (
link, it’s free). The latter one should be in the same folder as the script. JQuery is borrowed from the CDN.
If you want, though, I can upload a rar containing all files.

ParticipantThere was this video (I think it was an ad) that showed two people, separated by a mirror. The first one (I’ll call it the “original” one from now on) looks into the mirror and sees the “fake” one, who looks exactly like him. The video is focused on the life of the “fake” one, who lives in a dark hallway or something of the sort, where he has to run and/or wait for the other one to look into the mirror again.

ParticipantI disagree. People that abuse should be banned. People that organise to do things en masse should be banned. If you were to make the system more ‘serious’, you wouldn’t have the option to downvote or upvote your own blog. Regarding the qotw, without downvotes that would not happen. Regarding 5), so what? if I write a 141-character-blog, it gets downvoted. If I do not give the users that downvoted my blog another chance to like my blog, so that I edit it and they can like it, I’d just delete it so it doesn’t receive more dislikes.
If you don’t care enough to read a blog, you don’t care enough for your vote. But whatever, it’s your site, do whatever you want with it. I couldn’t care less.

ParticipantNass said: If you don’t get it, don’t rate. Instead ask the writer about what they meant, when they explain themselves then you rate.
Rating without fully understanding is almost as dumb as buying something and not know wtf it does. Not understanding is not limited to the feeling of confusedness, there’s also something called misunderstanding. Because you misunderstand an argument, you may be against it. Because you misunderstand a blog, you may downvote it.
And let me tell you, this is not about why would you change your mind. It’s about the feature being arbitrary and superfluous. Also, vusys, if you wanted to give the “likes” feature more impact, you wouldn’t have let authors vote their own blogs. It is either that, or you being an hypocrite here.

ParticipantDavid said: Lol, why so cynical? It’s true that you used to be able to like/unlike a blog after a while, but what if someone writes a really good blog, then gets hacked, the blog gets replaced with troll stuff, and people suddenly come in and look at it, and say, this is what the community likes?
Probably won’t ever happen, but I don’t see why there’s a limit on up/down voting either. :p
Let me tell you, if I ever hacked vutales, the least I would do is change a blog.
Nass said: Well if you liked the blog why would you change your mind anyway? That’s the point, if you ever decide to dislike a blog, because you don’t understand it or anything, and something changes, like, the blog is edited or suddenly you understand it, you should be able to change your mind. And albeit you are right, there is a low chance that you want to change your choice, it should not restrict you. It just adds unnecessary complexity to the database table and the source code.
