Nexon's Stupidity With Private Servers

By In Uncategorized

So yeah, Nexon is making a whole big deal about Private Servers and how they're supposedly drawing players away from Global and stealing Nexon's money.

Point One: Private Servers do not "steal" players. Players go looking for private servers.
There'd be no way players would know Private Servers existed if they didn't go looking for them or heard about them from a friend. Word of mouth wouldn't spread about Private Servers if players were happy with how Nexon ran Global. Private Servers exist solely because players are dissatisfied with how Nexon does things.

Point Two: Private Servers are not stealing money from Nexon.
Private Servers make zero profit. Any money they DO make goes towards paying for the costs of the server. If players are going to buy NX, they'll buy NX. If they aren't, they won't. It's simple as that. Private Servers aren't going to corrupt players into not paying for NX. I was a heavy Private Server player, and I spent over $300 of my own money on NX.

Point Three: Nexon's Gay
Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.

That is mostly true. I’ve known people who ran MS Private Servers who actually lived off the money they got from it. They pulled in about $500 a month, through just Donations. Yes, their server was big.

This is NOTHING compared to WoW PServers, though. I know FAMILIES of people that live off of WoW PServer cash. The top PServer a couple months ago got about $10,000 a month, paying for the owner’s schooling.

How do you live off $500 a month. o_o.

Piece of cake… Get an apartment somewhere cheap for like $70 a week and live off of fast food!

Or cheap instant ramen! 😀

Or Pocky!

College kids = the reason they invented dollar menus.

*mumble* can’t buy nothing for a dollar here. Except for instant noodles. And you’re lucky if you can get an apartment for $200, let alone $70. >_<

Hey, fairly nice apartments for 2-3 people here are $160, so I’m sure you could get a cheap one for less than half that.

Chameleon 18 April 2009 Reply

You could also wait until the housing market gets REALLY bad. I’m sure rooms would be SUPER cheap then. :/

xD It’s different for me, since I’m in a different country, Rawk. And of course there’s the option to share, but doesn’t change the fact that rates are still expensive. :X

I said he lived off it. I didn’t say he lived that WELL off it 😛

I partly disagree with you.
Although it’s true that it is the players who become dissatisfied and join private servers. Private servers offer the option for players to join their server- which means players who originally played MS are leeched towards privates servers (Less players= less money for Nexon).
And regardless of the little profit the private servers can make, the point is that establishing these private servers create outside businesses through the use Nexon’s MS that was originally copyrighted in the first place.

It’s ok, here in Maryland you can’t find a studio apartment the size of a shoebox in the worst area of town for less than $600 ._.

Rent is high in Toronto.

Anyways, my brother is going to Queen’s University, which is located in a semi-city semi-rural town. He has to play $600 a month along with 4 other people, which totals to about $2400 a month. Talk about daylight robbery!

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to live in a dorm? o_o

Technically it’s not “Nexon’s MS.” It’s Wizet’s MS. Nexon is just the big corporate mother company that snatched a shiny object away from Wizet and used it to start making profit. It’s not the first time this kind of thing has happened, and it most certainly won’t be the last. I don’t know if you’ve heard of the game “FATE,” but it’s kind of like Diablo. It was made by a brilliant young man named Travis Baldree, who had made it simply as a free game for his friends and other gamers to play. In steps WildTangent, making him an offer he can’t refuse, slapping a $20 price tag on it, and giving Travis a staff position at WildTangent. Since this wasn’t his vision for gaming, he eventually left to work on another project, “Mythos,” which was somewhat like a World of Warcraft clone. Anyways, that game never got off the ground because Blizzard came in and bought most of its developers to work on Diablo III. I’m not sure what Travis is up to now, but whatever he’s doing, I’m sure it’ll be genius!

1st years have priority with dorms. You have to win a lottery/random draw to get residence on campus. Also, the food costs more when you’re 2nd year and up.

Could always try and get an RA position? That’s what my friend has, so she gets free room/board. But yea, $600 a month even after sharing the place with four other people is insane.

I agree.
Well, I still like Nexon…
but yeah, they’re being stupid.

Nexon says its games are “free” but the games are designed in such a way that you need the nexon cards for the XP/drop tickets and (insert other NX items here) to play effectively or at an enjoyable level. To me that is unethical. Private servers, the boosted exp/drop actually makes maple fun again, and you don’t have to waste hundreds of hours levelling to levels where u do 90K dmg or hundreds of $$ on all the NX to get u there.
Everyone who has played maple and quit would know this even if they never knew private servers existed.
