Ok, so making my own free ringtones doesn't make me a pirate… But forcefully placing them on my phone does! You see, I have a nice-yet-somehow-still-crappy phone, the Motorola i335,
^^ which looks exactly like that ^^
Anways, it's a Boost Mobile phone, and only costs $1/day to use with unlimited texting, unlimited nights and weekends, and unlimited Mobile-To-Mobile as long as the other party has Sprint, Boost, or Nextel. Pretty darn good service for ~$30 per month.
The problem was that this phone is very picky about the type of ringtones it'll accept, and Boost has disallowed people from downloading ringtones from those free ringtone sites directly to the phone. Also, when you plug the phone into the computer, it doesn't show up as a connected device, it only charges the phone… Laaaame…
But was I to accept this? NO! I wasn't! I spent all day yesterday searching for a way to make my own ringtones and transfer them to my shiny new Motorola i335 which only had crappy stock ringtones. So I found a program called "MyJal MediaPal," which was made for the purpose of putting Java applications, images, and music onto Motorola phones, which are notorious for being a pain in the @$$ when it comes to that stuff.
Problem was, for some reason, MyJal wasn't detecting my phone. I had installed the drivers and everything, but still no luck. I figured I needed to restart the computer, but my dad has a password on it, so if I restarted it, I couldn't log in, and he was away! Blargh, after all that work, I was stuck for the night!
Finally my dad got home, I restarted the computer, and MyJal detected my phone. I was home free!…. Or so I thought. I then tried to add some of the ringtones I'd downloaded (MP3s, WAVs, MIDIs, etc) and constantly received an error message saying that the transfer could not be completed. I couldn't figure out what was wrong! One of the files, however, worked. It was a WAV clip of "All Summer" by Kid Rock. Not my favorite song, but definitely a huge step up from the boring, basic, shrill trills of the default Motorola tunes.
So today, I took a closer look at that file, discovered that even though it was a WAV file, it was more specific than just that. I finally found a [url=http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Making_Ringtones]guide[/i] that showed me how to adjust the settings just so, and have now made 6 more ringtones out of my favorite songs! Yay me!!

I could use some serious help with mine. Sony Ericsons are picky about what to use as ringtones.
My friend showed me this site, which worekd jsut fine, you upload the song, cut it just how you want it, and then enter in your phone number. It texts msgs the phone with a DL link and poof, new song for ya 🙂
only problem was, you get charged for going online and dl-ing, since i dont have a data plan. My dad was not pleased when the bill came that month T.T
Just get a better phone and be done with the annoyance? o:
There’s a really good proggy.
What really good proggy? MyJal? O_o
My ringtone will ALWAYS sound like a phone ringing. Crazy, I know.
:O
It’s a traditionalist! Zomg~~
My friend uses this program that simply allows him to connect his phone to a computer and drag and drop ringtones to a folder and they’ll be available (if they’re around 30 seconds that is, and there’s a site that automatically cuts songs to around that length too).
It was from a Cnet podcast, I’ll dig it up for ya.
Found it. Double Twist, I think yours is on the supported list.
My ringtone is the best ringtone. Solid Snaaaake! woooooooowoooo!
Hmmmm it doesn’t seem to be recognizing it… :O I’ll fiddle around w/ it some more tho… Thx for the link David
The phone looks nice.
Maybe because the only portable phone I’ve ever seen was
Rofl Nass that’s hilarious
Gujju: I can help! I hack phones all the time, and it’s pretty easy to transfer ring tones and such, especially to sony ericssons. <3 I used to have one, actually!
