Circuitry. P1

How far past the edge of the wind can someone go before they're swept away?

Why would anyone ever go past the edge?

The wind beyond the edge never stops. It is a ferocious wind that sweeps away everything in it's path. A wind that can rip away your very soul.

Only a mad man would ever think of going into that wind.

Rae walked across the grassy plain towards the massive windmill. He looked at his OverSoul, a multi-purpose tool bound to him genetically. It was on to his wrist, and the dimensions of it's display were 8×14 centimeters. It could do several things such as tell time, tell temperature, calculate humidity in the air, check the wind speed, and check the user's vital signs. there was also a store on the web where you could download more practical applications for it, but the wind took down the servers before Rae had a chance. The red display read "2:17", 7 Degrees, 20% humidity, Wind 6.32 knots.
"It's coming early today.." he thought to himself.

He walked up to the windmill, glancing at the heart engraved onto the metal, "R and A, won't you come out and play?" He backed up, and with a running start, and grabbed the first metal bar 8 feet off the ground leading up to the top of the windmill. All the steps had fallen off. Using both arms, he pulled his legs up to the same bar he held on to and stepped on. The next bar was about 2 meters up. All the bars in between had rusted and fallen off. He jumped for the second bar and grunted as his momentum swung him further than he was comfortable. He pulled himself up.
"One more." He thought.
Just then, a gust of wind tore through the plain and knocked Rae backwards off the bar. He quickly swung his arm at the bar and barely caught himself. Hanging over 5 meters off the ground, he slowly pulled himself back up on to the bar and looked at the next bar.
"Shit" he thought to himself. The next bar was another 2 meters from the last bar, and Rae was getting tired. He closed his eyes, and concentrated.
He breathed in and out deeply and slowly. When he opened his eyes, his pupils were dilated and glowing yellow. He lunged at the bar flawlessly and swung from the last bar to the top of the windmill the moment he had grip on the bar. His eyes returned back to normal, and he stood up on the windmill.
He looked through his bag and found the missing part of the windmill. He took it out and walked towards a pristene panel on the otherwise rusty windmill. He set the part down and took out his screw driver. He unscrewed the panel and looked inside. The circuitry had been ripped out by the wind, and he'd been replacing the parts ever since. He sat down and looked up into the sky, remembering the first time he met her.

Rae ran across the grassy field; his friends told him to meet them at the far edge of the field full of windmills after his lecture. He was excited for today. Today was the day that he'd finally get the money for his OverSoul. Being an orphan, he never had parents to buy him things, and he had to work his way through school by himself.
He rushed across the field as fast as he could, when suddenly, out the corner of his eye, he saw a girl. She was sitting on the grass, leaning her back against the same windmill he was sitting on. One of the blades had fallen off and it was leaning against the side. The spinning windmill looked awkward as the blades reached the top of the circle, and abruptly dropping from the imbalanced weight. He slowed down to take a look. Decelerating to a walking pace, he walked towards the girl, and hid behind a windmill. She was young, about his age. Pretty too, more so than a lot of other girls. She wore a white dress with a purse lying on the ground beside her, reading a book. He recognized the cover.
"Excuse me." he said. She looked up, and his heart fluttered.
"Yes?"
"I see you're reading 'Snow Crash' by Neal Stephenson."
"That's right, you've read the book?"
"No, but I thought it would be a good conversation starter."
She smiled and laughed a little.
"Mind if I sit here?" His money could wait.
"Not at all."

He shook his head and looked at his OverSoul. "3:01" He heard a roar from beyond the horizon. His heart leaped out of his stomach. He looked over the hill, and a great darkness blocked out the sun.

The wind was coming.

Short and sweet. A little over the top for a start.

As VuTalians, we’re used to being blasted in the face with fantasy quirks from teh get-go, but regular readers would find it a bit overbearing.

You need more lube. Ease into the fantasy setting, don’t let it flood all over the place.
