[QoTW] Penny Pincher? You shut your mouth.

Well, I can’t imagine what popular Korean MMO the QoTW is talking about, but I know I’ve spent my fair share of money on MapleStory. I think the very first time I spent money on it was on my old Page in Windia, SolarKatz. Back then I’d just splurge a little every now and then since my only means to pay with was my grandma’s PayPal, so I’d never get more than $25 at a time. I’d only spend when there was a sale for a holiday or event and I never got pets, so my spending was light and sporadic.

I started to get a little more spendy when I had two characters in two different worlds going on (the addition being my Assassin KosmoKatz in Broa), but ultimately I ended up playing my Assassin less and focusing on my Page. I have pictures of what all outfits I got, so here’s a look:

And then, uh, I kinda quit MS for about three years. The only thing that I really spent money on in that intermission of MMOs was a car, so yeah. But I guess before MapleStory, my biggest money wasting was spent on trading cards. Fucking Poke’mon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic the Gathering… I should’ve spent that money on hookers and weed. I guess if I just leave that shit alone for a while, it’ll be worth a lot in the future. So I guess I was wise to waste money on cards ‘cuz now I got graduation money for my kids money for hookers and weed.

Overall I’m pretty frugal, so the amount of money I spent when I was young was pretty mild. When I finally set up my own checking account sometime in high school, I was pretty lenient as well, only spending when I needed to. When I got to college though, that’s when shit hit the fan. I started MS back up in October or something of last year, and I thought I’d invest a good amount of money to get me started since I was shit poor and didn’t know what to. I think in about two months I spent around $300 on Gachapon, pets and accessories, permanent outfits, and other miscellaneous crap. I even bought an entire NX outfit for my new Marauder, realized I didn’t do the option for permanent, then re-bought the entire outfit as permanent. I’m pretty much over spending NX on MS now, but for a while there I was pulled into a vicious, swirling vortex of sucking Nexon’s dick. Right now I only charge a bit here and there for smegas, shops, and effects since I have the outfits I like for eternity. Here’s the digs I got going for my current character:

Oh yeah, along with spending a shit-ton of money I didn’t need to on MS, I also got caught up in buying shit in TF2. Every time a new package would come out (starting with the Polycount one), I’d just buy that instead of crafting everything. I also got caught up in buying those God damn keys; the temptation of an unopened crate would just get to me, and I’d break every time.

That’s when the addiction started.

I guess I have settled down though since I decided not to buy the newest pack (a bunch of Japanese-themed hats and weapons) since I’ll just find/craft the weapons and say “screw it” to the ugly hats. I’m not your bitch anymore, Valve, so stay away from my wallet.

As for my current monetary situation, I’m running out of fucking money that I’ve saved over the years. From here on out I’m just gonna try to buy hookers and weed worthwhile games when I come out, but what I really need to do is get Gamefly or something so I don’t miss out on the other good games I don’t decide to buy. I can’t live off of MvC3 and MK9 forever, so yeah.
