Asian parents…

By In Uncategorized

…are so annoying. It's like they live to nag you about every 0.1% of your grade. Have you ever came home with your report card, dreading to show that damn piece of paper to your parents because you know they're never going to be happy about it? Well then, you probably have Asian parents.

EVERY year, they just stare at it and point out all the flaws.

"What?! You dropped 3 percent in Math? Only 92% now?!"
"What happened? Why only 86% in English? We need to get you a tutor!"

It's like they don't even notice that an A is supposed to be excellent; they think A is just passing, and that "you would have failed if you were in Asia right now". And the only time you do get 100%, they just go, "Meh. Good for you." If that 100% drops though, it's the end of the world.

"With your marks (low A's), you'll never get into university!" WTF. Most stupid people get in, but not me?

Tip: Never start out with a high mark, because there's only one way to fall if you're at the top: DOWN. But don't start too low either, or else the lecture you can memorize is will be said again. AND AGAIN.

/end rant

Wow, that felt better. =)

Do you get attacked? :0

Ohey, you’re Asian too? Care to specify exactly where you/your parents are from?

And my parents used to be like that too, but with my… slight… lack of motivation, my parents said that they’ve given up on me. Result? I don’t get as many lectures and oddly, I’m a bit more self-motivated (okay, that was kind of a lie), and I still get okay grades… not stellar exactly (mostly low- to high-range As, except in English, dammit). But anyway, I think our school gives out report cards in the mail.

And that quote regarding English? My parents pretty much said that exact thing to me last year, only in Mandarin. xD

It’s the SAME thing on my side.

“Why is your Credit Earned a 0?”
“It’s a mid-term, mother.”
“Why are you dropping marks? Do you need a tutor? You have to stop playing those games! Those games are the corruption in your schoolworks!”

x..X

That was my parents’ argument back in middle school when I was still playing GMS. After I quit, my grades went up (big surprise)… before dropping a bit again. xD

Ugh, and I got my schedule for school today. Four AP classes… I’m probably going to drop one. Surprisingly, instead of telling me to take as many APs as possible, my parents were actually asking me if I would be okay with taking so many along with band… o-o;; (Kinda want to take regular English as well, but I want to be in the same classes as my friends… so yeah xD;; )

@ Froggy: Well, not now, but back in June, and before that.

@ Chameleon: Chinese, specifically. I wish I could get my parents to not care, but pride prevents me from getting my grades too low. XD

@ Pirkid: “Why are you dropping marks? Do you need a tutor? You have to stop playing those games! Those games are the corruption in your schoolworks!”

That’s what my parents say too, but they say computer or anime instead, since I don’t play many games anymore.

Chameleon 11 August 2009 Reply

Yay! Chinese friend! 😀

Oooooh that darn pride. It’s what motivates me as well. xD

lolololol

snowhamster 11 August 2009 Reply

Hmm.

When I get bad grades, my mom blames it on my friends that don’t have all A’s.
Mom: -looks at report card- “WAAH? YOU GOT A B?!”
Me: “Don’t hurt me :<"
Mom: “AH! THIS IS ALL BECAUSE OF THAT AMERICAN FRIEND OF YOURS! STOP SPENDING TIME WITH HER! SHE LOWER YOUR GRADES! BAD INFLUENCE! BAD INFLUENCE! YOUR FRIEND, DANIEL. HE HAS GOOD GRADES! LOOK UP TO HIM!”
Me: “B-but…I’m the 2nd smartest out of everyone. Daniel is top.”
Mom: “I DON’T CARE IF YOU’RE SMARTER THAN ANYONE. ONLY COUNTS IF THEY SMARTER THAN YOU!”

I don’t know why my mom attempts to speak english to lecture me. It just makes me confused D:

Er…
To be honest, I think I’ve heard Asian parents over nine thousand times. Literally…
I understand it sucks, but the talk about asian parents gets redundant after a while. @_@
… Although its amusing. 😀
But yar. Those asian parens are strict, to the point that one of my asian friend (who really isn’t a friend but whatever)’s Dad uses me as an example for him to get better. The kid has gotten crazy because of his Dad. Its like he rules his life…

That’s actually true though, most of the best colleges are extremely picky.

AznRiceFan 12 August 2009 Reply

Good thing my report card never showed percentages. My parents surprisingly never really attacked me that often about grades, mostly because I always had everything in order and taken care of myself. My mom does have a tendency to expect straight A+s though.

Not really; most universities look at overall GPA rather than individual grades. Much faster. A- vs. A+ doesn’t really matter that much.

Chameleon 12 August 2009 Reply

Augh. I’ve gotten conflicting messages from my teachers, too. Like, the counselor said that honors classes are better than regular, but my English teacher said that honors classes don’t matter at all. So I’m trying to decide whether or not to drop Honors English this year. :/

AznRiceFan 12 August 2009 Reply

Honors/AP classes matter. Decent grades on a rigorous schedule looks better than straight As on a easy schedule.

Chameleon 12 August 2009 Reply

‘kay thanks. :B

Souseiki 12 August 2009 Reply

Same thing happens with me. Though i hide my report card so my parents don’t see it. They usually don’t remember. 🙂

Ever heard of the IB program?

Chameleon 12 August 2009 Reply

Oh! I have! A school in my district has it.

… Actually, it’s about 25 minutes’ walk from my house. But it’s new, so I’m not going there this year .__.

snowhamster 12 August 2009 Reply

lolwtf
They’re enforced a new GPA system this year. I think a full score is 6.5, or was it 6?
Anyway, now it DOES matter if it’s an A- or an A+
:/

Oh, and my last report card was never sent to me 😀 I think it’s better off that way because I know I had a B in science. And my History was probably A- or B+
😀 Post office screw-ups have saved the day!

Taelin 12 August 2009 Reply

@ Chameleon: Well, it doesn’t matter (apparently) where I live.

@ Pirkid: OMG, IB. I had a friend graduate from it, and boy, was she ever happy.

Yup, but not very familiar with it. I’ve heard it’s writing-heavy though.

tarheel91 12 August 2009 Reply

My mom’s like that, and she’s American. I never had to deal with it, because my grades are always good, but you should see the hell my little brother gets. Granted, he deserves it (he had all C’s and D’s at one point in the year), but it would suck to be him.

Now I’m in college and she can’t see my grades no matter what she does, so it doesn’t matter. 🙂

Taelin 12 August 2009 Reply

C’s and D’s? I would have killed myself before my mom got around to yelling at me. XD

Chameleon 12 August 2009 Reply

Same here. xD

I think I’ve only gotten a C once EVER, and that was on a math test back in middle school. Luckily, my overall grade was pretty solid… .__.;;

Taelin 12 August 2009 Reply

The only time I got something lower than a B was in P.E. (C+ T_T)

PE is mostly participation, right? So I just try, y’know? Of course, no matter how little I move, it’s still tons more than what the prissy white girls do (AKA standing around in a such a light drizzle that’s BARELY EVEN THERE and complaining about frizz). >______>;;

FunnyFroggy 12 August 2009 Reply

Bahahahahahaha! Asians and PE. -sigh-

I was always good at it. :/

Taelin 12 August 2009 Reply

@ Chameleon: I got a C+ for P.E. last term because my teacher thought I was being lazy and not going on my shift for the game. Never mind the fact that I had just played two shifts in a row. >>”

Awwh. That’s mean. *hugs*

YUS OMG. THAT SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE MY MOM’S REASONING.

My mom actually thinks that an A2 (70 marks) is “REALLY ABYSMALLY BAD”, and she’s considering making me drop my music classes… I MEAN COME ON WTF!!

lol my mom doesnt even ASK about my grades. She assumes (and rightly so) when i get a horrible enough grade i will be disappointed in myself and tell her; to which she’ll sigh and say “Try to do better next time okay?” and go on with what she’s doing. Other than that, no worries for me! xD

It was an error…boy was my mom furious when she saw it tho.

Then at the teacher when he admitted to the error…hell I think I got off easy =/

Omg.

That… Really sucks.

I always talk back to my mom… I can’t resist. >.> Because even if I don’t talk back, she’ll just keep barking at me. So it’ll go something like this:

Mom: WHY THE F:)CK IS YOUR MATH SO BAD?!
Me: One. You know damn right I suck so hard at Math. Two. I passed for the paper, it’s just that I forgot to f:)cking pass up a few other stupid homeworks. And three, yelling about it don’t do nothin’.
Mom: WELL WHAT IT DOES DO IS BEAT THE FACT THAT YOU NEED TO WORK HARDER INTO YOUR HEAD!
Me: I already know I need to work harder, but yelling about it don’t do nothin’.

And then she’ll get so angry she’ll slam some random stuff on the table. @.@ I mean sometimes I get slapped. But I shrug it off and pretend it never even happened.

Now that I think about it, I’m a prettuh naughty kid. @.@

Taelin 12 August 2009 Reply

@ Reve: That sounds like something my mom would say…it sounds so similiar….*shivering in fear already*

It reminds me of Gr. 9, when I got 86% for math…..
