Random Musings

By In Uncategorized

After reading some of the blogs on here, I've come to realize just how boring my life is. Well, I already knew it was already quite boring, but seeing stuff you've never experienced in your life happen to real people (not T.V.) just brings that fact home. Sure, I should be happy with my boring, yet healthy and normal life, but it's boring; sometimes, I wished something life-changing would happen to me. Maybe I've been watching too much anime; this may be why I'm thinking this way…

So, I thought I'd just waste cyberspace and ramble for a bit. It's not like I'm paying to blog here anyway! Yes, I do fit the stereotypical mold of an Asian; I'm stingy with my own money, I love taking shortcuts, and I'll probably be a bad driver when I get my licence. I get fairly good grades (not to make myself look better, although I must admit, inflating one's ego is a natural thing to do; if there was a person who didn't like their ego being inflated, I'd be scared), I waste my life on 'Japanese cartoons', play two instruments, and isn't doing so shabby in math (contrary to popular belief, most Asians I know don't like math, they're just good at it).

Wow, I like to go off topic, don't I? *looks back at what I've written so far*

Anyway, I went 'yum cha' (if you're Chinese, and you don't do this sometimes, you're a shame! *is obviously joking*) with my grandparents today. It's always the same: you have to play the perfect grandchild in front of them. Me? I just use the old trick of 'smiling and nodding'. Just agree with everything they say, and be extremely polite. I envy non-Asians (or people that don't have traditional families) sometimes; they don't have to deal with such formalities. With my family, it's always about 'saving face'; don't act stupid in front of your grandparents, watch what you tell them etc. It must be worse for Koreans and Japanese people though; from what I've heard, they're even more formal than Chinese people.

But sometimes, I respect that formality. These days, some annoying kid can, and will, walk up to you and swear at you for no apparent reason. It's a true story! Back in elementary school, I had a kindergartener swear at me for no apparent reason. Like, what the hell? Where do they learn these things? I wish kids would respect their elders more; somehow, the 'senpai kohai' system they have in Japan doesn't sound so bad after all. Everyone's got to learn their place in society someday; why not start now?

Now that I think about it, I never got why smoking is still considered 'cool' in high school. If you think about it (wow, I just repeated myself a bit), smoking is just basically slowly killing yourself (y'know, the usual lung cancer crap they shove up your face all through high school); isn't that suicide, long-term? Last time I checked, suicide definitely wasn't 'cool'. Isn't there some sort of inconsistency here? Am I missing something? Human stupidity is infinite, isn't it?

Some wise person once said (well, since I don't know who they were/are, so logically, I can't come to the conclusion that they are wise, but the following words are pretty wise to me…):

There are only two things that are infinite: the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not even sure about the former.

Well, the quote itself isn't exact, but you get the meaning, right? Even I tend to baffle myself at how stupid I can get. Have you ever tried walking up to the fridge to get something and when you open the fridge, you forget what you wanted to get? I find myself doing that a lot. Sometimes, I wonder if I'm losing my memory. I tend to forget things that are important, and remember the weirdest trivia. Did you know that J.S. Bach had twenty kids? And yet, I often find myself telling something I found interesting to the same person twice. They often have to remind me that I've already told them that. You know how embarrassing that is?

I think that's all the random crap from me today; wow, this actually tired me out quite a bit. Would that be interesting, or just plain pathetic?

Until next time,
Taelin

P.S.: An e-cookie for whoever actually bothered to read all that crap.

Yum Cha for my grandparents = PUT EVERYTHING ON SUAMA’S BOWLLLL. ._. My grandparents usually ignore me though since I don’t speak much chinese, so I don’t have to go through what you do fortunately. I’m curious though, what gave you the impression that you had to be like that infront of them? Did they actually bring you up saying stuff like that?

And what are you on about, suicide is totally cool! You’re all edgy and crap with your thousands of personality disorders that you can go on about or blame shit on!

My friends actually do that quite often, so no, you’re not alone (one actually told me an interesting fact I told her a day before)! And yes I find myself forgetting stupid stuff like that. Once I was holding my glasses in my hand and I was like, “WHERE ARE MY FRIKKEN GLASSES?!!”. ._.

P.S. While I do have manners and everything around the elders, I don’t respect elders if the only basis for the respect is that they’re older. .-.
