Gone In A Flash

By In Uncategorized

Like lightning. You see it flash and then it’s gone, just like that. Leaving only a faint sound trailing in the distance.

Just a blog to update you guys about what’s been happening here in Massachusetts.

My apartment search is pretty much fried at this point. Shit totally hit the fan. Me and my boyfriend saved as much money as we could, but a series of events have left us nearly broke again.

Our landlord who said she was going to cut us some slack while we looked for an apartment only gave us a break for 2 months. She raised our rent to $600 which is already outside of my boyfriend’s salary range. So now I’m paying for us to both live there. My mother’s birthday is today. She’s turning 43. She called me and cried, saying that she had to pay $620 before she could move in to her new apartment. My brother agreed to chip in half and reluctantly, I paid the other half. That’s over a grand right there that was just cut out of our savings if you do the math.

$600(rent) + $310(half of my mother’s rent) + $180(half of electric bill) = $1,090

I was glad to pay half though albeit, incredibly irritated. But it’s my mom’s birthday and it’s the least I can do for her. But she can’t expect me to save her all the time.

Now the rest of the money I have left is to be used to pay the rent next month and my boyfriend just used his entire check to pay for half of the electric bill which was about $180 because I roommates don’t know how to turn shit off when they aren’t using it. Basically, I’ve been bled dry. All the money I worked hard to save is gone now. Our hopes and dreams of moving out to a new apartment have been dashed in seconds. In an effort to get all the money back that we lost, I’m working extra hours now and possibly extra shifts.

Now you’re wondering: “$600 isn’t that bad,” and you’re right. It’s not. We can afford it. Well…I can afford that. But trust me when I say that our living conditions are not worth $600. Our room is tiny. And I mean TINY. We could just barely fit anything in. The window’s are rotted and break easily. There are a ton of holes and bugs come into our room constantly. It’s annoying having to kill a moth or a fly every 3 goddamn seconds. We have no shades attached to our windows either which means the windows are just bare and open for anyone who want to look inside our room and see what we’re doing from outside. Two outlets in our room are falling apart. One doesn’t even have a cover. The other one is on it’s way to breaking. That’s just our room. Outside our room, the house is constantly dirty or there’s always objects laying around. The kitchen is completely unsanitary. Our roommates have a dog and he likes chewing on EVERYTHING and ANYTHING he gets his jaws on. He eats up his own pee pads too. He’s not trained either so usually there’s a bunch of dog shit on the floor of the kitchen. Our roomates don’t know how to clean up after themselves either. Everywhere I look, there are dishes with half eaten food on them lying around everwhere. Every time our roommates turn something on, they never turn it off and in turn that sky rockets the electric bill with which they make us pay half when we should only really be paying a quarter. And they constantly leave the front and back door open. Which makes me feel completely unsafe because who knows who will sneak into the place. It’s in the middle of nowhere so no one would notice someone breaking in. Really not worth paying like $800 a month to live there. Our landlord said that she needed help with the mortgage because she was having trouble paying it and that’s understandable.. But get this: She tells us that she has to raise our rent right after coming back from a vacation she took to New York where she spent a ton of money shopping there. She bought her youngest daughter a brand new bed set and paid to have her take archery lessons which are expensive as hell. I found it even funnier that she had no trouble paying her mortgage before but now all of a sudden needs help and instead of raising the rent of the people who can afford it (i.e. The other tennants who can spend a grand on buying a whole bunch of shit for themselves) she raises our rent. The tennants who can barely afford it and that are in the middle of trying to save money to move away. So in truth, she’s making us pay for all her little vacations and all the times she eats out and buys herself things. My boyfriend is struggling with his job since they just cut his hours and his co workers are trying to fuck him out of even more hours. He wants to go to college too for criminal justice but we have to move into Boston for him to even apply but we live in Dedham so we’re effectively trapped and he’s barred from applying to college until we move. He’s not taking it well. He’s getting stressed and him being stressed leads to him being moody and frustrated and in turn, he sometimes takes it out on me.

As bad as things are though, I’m trying to be optimistic about it. I mean, I would have liked to move out ASAP, but I guess it’s going to take waaay long for that now. I can say though that I fucked myself bad when I agreed to move in with these people, but eh, it’s not like I didn’t see it coming. I just didn’t see it coming this fast. Things will work out…eventually. >_>;

Yeah….I can do it. I’ve got the power. *Weak fist pump*

So there’s a big Hurricane coming here. It’s name is Irene.

People are flipping out and going to Home Depot to empty the place of water and generators and flashlights and all that jazz. It’s supposed to be real bad. They say that it’s gonna cause flooding and a ton of wind damage. It’s coming this Sunday. I’m a little scared but I’m also hopeful that the weather people are just hyping the hell out of it like they do a lot and that it’s not going to be as bad as they say it is. I’m more concerned about saving my Wii and shit. I’ve been playing Monster Hunter Tri online a lot lately and I really don’t want to lose all that data. I just might back it up on something.

Here’s to hoping that it’s not gonna be as bad as people are saying it’s gonna be. We’ve had people hype out that we were gonna get Tornados and nothing happened. ;>_>

I’d love to go into more detail about how awesome Monster Hunter tri is and how much fun I’ve had online for the past couple of days but I’ll save that for another blog. I mean…you guys won’t know what the fuck I’m talking about unless you’ve played the Monster Hunter games before but it’ll still be fun to talk about it regardless.

Hope you guys have an outstanding weekend and good luck to the folks who are starting school.

Sad to hear about the living situation. I sincerely hope you and your boyfriend gather up the funds to leave. Good luck 🙂

That’s how people die. They say, eh, last time we had a hurricane, it wasn’t so bad. Then a really really bad one comes in, and floods their neighborhood.

Well, if that’s how I’m going to kick the bucket… not too bad of a way to die.

Well, technically, it could be worse. Back in China where my grandparents from my father’s side live and when I visited over the summer, there’s barely any electricity, no computers, and there’s only a living room and a bedroom that they built with their own hands.. no air conditioning despite average temperature ranges in the 80-90 degrees, no indoor bathrooms, no showers, just a simple water pump in the back – no gas either, there’s bugs everywhere but the chickens do take care of that.. sort of, wild dogs all over the place but at least they don’t bite if you feed them scraps off the table. 😛

Yeah, it could be worse.

I guess it would be pretty awesome to be lifted up in the hurricane (if that’s possible xD)

Oh, that wasn’t how I envisioned it. I thought I was going to get my jugular pierced by a cruelly jagged piece of glass going beyond the speed limit of highway norms.

Oh man, I remember having to cut down huge jackfruit plants with a fucking stick and diving into wells just to take a bath.

But I digress, I wish you good luck. It sucks being out in the world with just money problems and nothing else you can think about.

As a native of North Carolina, I was like “meh.” Category 2 hurricanes are hardly srs biz. Me and my brother went and got breakfast this morning at Bojangles in the middle of the storm, and it was pretty crowded.

Fran, though, Fran fucked our shit up.
