See, the last time this happened; I was a little worried, because ripping a site is against copyright laws. But VuTales my own work, and its features are too generic to be a "rip off" legally speaking. So:
“We appreciate your interest in VuTales. We care about your opinion. Unfortunately, this is not the proper way to contact a VuTales respresentative. Please log on to VuTales using your VuTales ID and make a formal report by clicking the link at the bottom of the page. If you do not have an account, feel free to create one. A VuTales representative will respond to your report promptly. Thank you and have a wonderful day!”
So umm… perhaps some clarification is in order here. Just how much of the base coding of the site did you change? Aside from the images and text, how much did you change exactly? Because if it’s not much… he’s kinda right. Just saying. If you just retooled his code a bit and slapped a new coat of paint, it doesn’t change the fact that the coding is still mostly his. Not pointing any fingers here, but there’s a reason for this sort of thing to be coming up (on multiple occasions, if I’m reading this clearly).

Nothing from MMOTales is used in this site.
Well, he seems to think otherwise. So, you’re telling me that there’s nothing left over from your restructuring of MMOTales? As in, if we compared the base coding side by side, there would be nothing similar at all?
I don’t know, it just seems unlikely that he would request it multiple times if there is no similarity whatsoever. Not to mention, the formatting does indeed look quite similar to what MMOTales used to look like, however this is based off of memory only. I was only a member a short time before it went under. Ermm, formatting aside from the pictures of course, which should be a given anyways.
Well, I suppose it’s pointless for me to ask anyways. The only way it could be proven was if you were to provide the coding of both sites so they could be compared. Really, that would be the only way to prove you’re not a plagiarist, and I find the chances of that happening unlikely. I’m new to the site anyways… the only thing I know is that the beta form of this site was heavily based upon MMOTales. Without proof, there isn’t really any way for me to know for sure. You may want to show him though, just to prove how different it is.
Assuming it indeed is completely different, of course.
Again, not pointing fingers, just find it odd that this sort of thing would still be going on.

The designs are at best similar, but that’s really quite irelevant. The front end is all my own work, and the back end of his sites have never been public or leaked. It’s like saying Gmail is a rip off of Hotmail.
If you want you can go look MMOTales up on the wayback machine, and look at the raw HTML. You’ll notice none of it is here.
Alright, I’ve taken a quick look. You’ve made some changes here and there, but the base remains quite similar. Changing the names of a few values doesn’t really qualify as all new, neither does organizing the horrible horrible mess that is MMOTales’ code (as commendable as that may be). Pictures follow with the sites compared. I took the liberty to link to them rather than post them directly here, as they are quite big and would possibly mess up the tables completely. I kept them big with legibility in mind. I would sort MMOTales’ code, but I’d much rather spend my time on other things, you do understand
While not a direct replica, all new it isn’t. Not trying to start a ruckus, but just pointing out that your position isn’t as infallible as you seem to believe. Just a warning, trying to help a bit. I’d rather there wasn’t any trouble if it could be avoided, since most people here seem rather nice. I’ll keep quiet about this from now on, since I do believe my point has been made, and it isn’t necessary to continue. I do concede I only show the front page for both sites, however I do believe that’s enough.
That said, glad to have made your acquaintances, and I shall try to participate more than I usually do for these sorts of things.

To be quite honest, I don’t see your point. A few major differences include:
MMOT, like all of his sites uses tables for layout. VuTales uses margin aligned
s. The latest blog panel on MMOT is in a
wrap, with a link, an empty
and two
s with text. VuTales uses no wrapper, and features two links inside
s
I will grant you that a few css class names carried through, things like “normal”, “rf” (right float), “lf” (left float). The ID for text areas “mainTextArea” carried through too, because Annona’s javascript refefred to it. This has been changed in v3. Either way, they’re not exactly meaningful evidence of anything illegal.
Have you heard about the lawsuit Crocs had? They sued a company that made replica shoes. Do you know what the court said? You can poke a bunch of holes in a rubber shoe and then copyright it.
Think of it this way: mrbasil’s code is like a rubber shoe with holes in it.
VuTales is steel-tipped construction boot without holes.
Here’s my response to Basil and 411.net: THIS IS WHAT YOU CHUMPS GET FOR KILLING MMOTALES! VUTALES IS BIGGER, FASTER, BETTER, SEXIER, AND NOT JUST MAPLE-ORIENTATED! (lol I remember the admin on MMOT giving me a warning about posting blogs that didn’t contain Maplestory content ) [/b] YOU’LL NEVER GET VUTALES! NEVER!!!!!![/b]
Sry I’m still pissed they killed mmot, and deleted my maple fanfic. my comp crashed right before it went down deleting my own copy of my fanfics, and when i went to MMOT to copypaste it back i got that stupid page saying its permanently closed. To me it was more like:
Dear MMOTalers: FUCK YOU. We deleted all your shit because it was original, creative, not bland like the junk posted by noobs on Nexon’s maplestory forums. Sincerely, The douchebags at 411.net.
I’d say send them that demotivational lol. Be like:
To the people at 411.net: In response to your bogus request: KISS MY ASS.
To be honest, I do agree with RandomPasserby. MMOTales and VuTales look slightly similiar, at least in format. Like how the frontpage is arranged, with popular blogs smack in the middle and recent blogs, forums, and etc. on the left side. And then for a VuTales ID compared to a MMOTales ID…it seems the arrangement is almost exactly the same, except VuTales has fragments and an About Me.
But truthfully, the similarities are…what’s the word…plausible? There’s not really much of a difference you CAN make. VuTales Beta, for sure, was a “ripoff” of MMOTales, so you had to remake the entire thing when Captain requested. But the thing is that the human mind has trouble completely demolishing an idea and building a 100% new plan. Chances are, that “100% new plan” is really just a prettier version of the first plan, because you unconsciously look to that as your base idea.
…Ranting aside, cappy needs to go die in a hole. LIKE NOW.
Complaining the format is a rip-off of MMOTales is ridiculous. ALL blog sites have the same layout. One main column for blog entries, and a side one for navigation, generally featuring stuff like “Most Recent Blogs” and such. See this one: http://www.ggkthx.org/ or this one: http://randomc.animeblogger.net/ . All blog sites look similar.
The actual code is VERY different. Trying to claim Vusys copied any of that is laughable at best.
Why is Mr. Basil still at it in the first place???
He himself axed a site due to “financial problems” and whatnot. We revived it, in all meaning of wellbeing to the community that it had once supported. And because we are simply passing a torch that he gave to no one in particular and probably leave to burn into cinders and ashes in a lost folder or to be lost in the sea of the internet, he’s attacking us for it?
I think he’s just using a defunct site as a legal weapon against others for personal gain.
Vusys said: its features are too generic to be a “rip off” legally speaking
I agree with this sentiment. It would be impossible to prove that you did not simply get the idea of a navigation pane, comment feed, or user profiles from the thousands of other websites out there with similar features. He’s bluffing with no cards in his hand – ignore him.
The idea of taking the initial design of a site dead long ago, unused, with open, generic code and trying to claim it as copyrighted material is not only implausible, but ridiculous.
BTW, I have a suggestion: I think it would be nice if there could be a way to choose if you wanted to view the comments in ascending or descending order of post time
He killed us. That’s all there is to it. No deadline (even a day wouldve been fine. douchy but fine.) to let us save all of our stuff, no “hey guys, yall need to chill before i axe this”. He just Deleted ****ing Everything.
We wanted a new site where we all could come back and still blog together. Here it is, better, faster, and you have much more freedom and might I add our admin is more personable? I say he can take his 24 Hour Bluff and shove it where the sun doesnt shine.

Dick move. Thought you and him were cool? Still, why does he give a darn about something he abandoned in the first place?
wow again?
Remind me to punch him in the face and then wish him a happy birthday.
Do you guys want to pen a response, or should we just ignore this stupidity?
Is this guy really an adult?
OPTION 1! I WANNA TELL HIM TO FUCK OFF!
Is he at it again? Let the bald eagle soar alone.
Tell him, does MMOT have a space background? No.
I want to reply..but not in the normal sense. I want to make him feel like the idiot he is.

I just lost what respect I had left for him.
Edit: @RandomPasserby: I think it’s different enough to not qualify for plagiarism. Eg. The toolbar at the top.
