So umm… perhaps some clarification is in order here. Just how much of the base coding of the site did you change? Aside from the images and text, how much did you change exactly? Because if it’s not much… he’s kinda right. Just saying. If you just retooled his code a bit and slapped a new coat of paint, it doesn’t change the fact that the coding is still mostly his. Not pointing any fingers here, but there’s a reason for this sort of thing to be coming up (on multiple occasions, if I’m reading this clearly).
I just lost what respect I had left for him.

Well, he seems to think otherwise. So, you’re telling me that there’s nothing left over from your restructuring of MMOTales? As in, if we compared the base coding side by side, there would be nothing similar at all?
I don’t know, it just seems unlikely that he would request it multiple times if there is no similarity whatsoever. Not to mention, the formatting does indeed look quite similar to what MMOTales used to look like, however this is based off of memory only. I was only a member a short time before it went under. Ermm, formatting aside from the pictures of course, which should be a given anyways.

Really, that would be the only way to prove you’re not a plagiarist, and I find the chances of that happening unlikely. I’m new to the site anyways… the only thing I know is that the beta form of this site was heavily based upon MMOTales. Without proof, there isn’t really any way for me to know for sure. You may want to show him though, just to prove how different it is.

The designs are at best similar, but that’s really quite irelevant. The front end is all my own work, and the back end of his sites have never been public or leaked. It’s like saying Gmail is a rip off of Hotmail.

Alright, I’ve taken a quick look. You’ve made some changes here and there, but the base remains quite similar. Changing the names of a few values doesn’t really qualify as all new, neither does organizing the horrible horrible mess that is MMOTales’ code (as commendable as that may be). To be quite honest, I don’t see your point. A few major differences include:
I will grant you that a few css class names carried through, things like “normal”, “rf” (right float), “lf” (left float). The ID for text areas “mainTextArea” carried through too, because Annona’s javascript refefred to it. This has been changed in v3. Either way, they’re not exactly meaningful evidence of anything illegal.

To be honest, I do agree with RandomPasserby. MMOTales and VuTales look slightly similiar, at least in format. Like how the frontpage is arranged, with popular blogs smack in the middle and recent blogs, forums, and etc. on the left side. And then for a VuTales ID compared to a MMOTales ID…it seems the arrangement is almost exactly the same, except VuTales has fragments and an About Me.
But truthfully, the similarities are…what’s the word…plausible? There’s not really much of a difference you CAN make. VuTales Beta, for sure, was a “ripoff” of MMOTales, so you had to remake the entire thing when Captain requested. But the thing is that the human mind has trouble completely demolishing an idea and building a 100% new plan. Chances are, that “100% new plan” is really just a prettier version of the first plan, because you unconsciously look to that as your base idea.

Complaining the format is a rip-off of MMOTales is ridiculous. ALL blog sites have the same layout. One main column for blog entries, and a side one for navigation, generally featuring stuff like “Most Recent Blogs” and such. See this one: http://www.ggkthx.org/ or this one: http://randomc.animeblogger.net/ . All blog sites look similar.
The actual code is VERY different. Trying to claim Vusys copied any of that is laughable at best.

I agree with this sentiment. It would be impossible to prove that you did not simply get the idea of a navigation pane, comment feed, or user profiles from the thousands of other websites out there with similar features. He’s bluffing with no cards in his hand – ignore him.
The idea of taking the initial design of a site dead long ago, unused, with open, generic code and trying to claim it as copyrighted material is not only implausible, but ridiculous.
