Humanity's latest EPIC FAILURE: GUY MARRIES VIDEO GAME CHARACTER!

OMGWTFBBQ HOLY GIZZARDS IN TOBASCO!

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE! THIS IS LIKE "WHAT THE FUCK!!!" Mind boggling!

Ok, I was looking up some Journeyman Pictures videos to watch and take notes from my term paper, when

I SAW THIS VIDEO

This guy he…dammit I can't even put this out right… actually marries a video game character!

Here's what Mr. Sal9000 had to say about his wedding.

The character he married was a NPC from a game called LovePlus DS (it's a dating simulator game). It's just a digital bot that has limited interaction when you push buttons. There is no spirit or soul in ANY video game character, even toons operated by humans (such as player characters in WoW or Maple Story). They're just tools. In physical terms, they are none but electricity on magnetically etched metal (or whatever it is hard drives are made out of). Anything on computers or the internet is NOTHING MORE THAN ELECTRICITY ON METAL ENCASED IN PLASTIC and it can all be wiped out instantly by an ELECTRO MAGNETIC PULSE!

After watching the video, you gotta wonder how this guy is gonna react when the save file on his DS game becomes corrupted, or if he breaks his DS, or even loses the game cartridge (or if he just downloaded the game on an R4 or M3 cartridge, and the data in the mini SD got corrupted or deleted?).
All his Nene is is just a .SAV file. You know I actually feel bad for this guy.

Ok, I was a bit choked when the save file on my Pokemon Silver cartridge was deleted, wiping out my entire pokemon army (including my prized level 52 feraligator that one-shotted other pokemon in a single hit, or my Togepi that nuked the Xatu in the first match of the Elite Four). Yeah, I was pissed but the next day, I didn't care.
This guy's mentality set to the point losing Nene will be like losing a real wife. It's gonna hurt him ALOT.

Ok, if it was just some guy in North America or Europe who married an NPC, he'd have to get a life, and we'd all call him a loser. Well I would anyway.

But in Japan, its hugely different.
Japanese kids grow up in the toughest of school systems, and are not granted any room for essential personal development. Nothing but extreme pressure from family, teachers and peers to do good in everything. Failure is not an option, and if they screw up on a test, it brings massive shame and hardship on them. Millions in JP have been conditioned this way, and the number of those cracking from such psychological conditions is growing fast. In Tokyo, theres more than 1 million young people who cracked under the pressure and just lock themselves at home and never come out again (for at least 5 years), as they will get hated on for not conforming like everybody else.

Traditional 'toughen-up culture' is in part responsible for this, needless to say, people in Japan hardly have room to BE HUMAN anymore, and it started to show a long time ago. There's the hikkikomori epidemic (where people snap from pressure, get really depressed and turtle in their homes for years), others snap and kill somebody cause they're so pissed off, and then there's the 30K+/year suicide rate in Japan.

And this guy marrying a video game character proves that this shit is OUT OF CONTROL! Okay, it's one thing to have a RP wedding in WoW or Maple Story to joke around. there's even one instance 2 ppl on WoW fell in love, got together and married in real life (they did an RP wedding). Youtube it.
And I thought 2 ppl having a long distance relationship based off a MMORPG was the limit,

But Sal9000 has taken a small step, no a GIANT LEAP in the name of epic failure of humanity. His wedding goes to show just how repressed and warped the Japanese young mind really is, and how far screwed up he had become.
Expression is limited by moral policies in japan, and when it comes to anime, all the pent up creativity and rage comes out (heh, makes good entertainment for all of us :D).
Im pretty sure it went something like this:

Sal finds it really hard to talk to real women. it's hard to talk and really have a conversation and connect with people. *he buys game, sticks it into his DS*
his mind and heart does a back flip when NPC shows up on screen. Her kindness (although completely artificial) causes his mind and heart to flip and become completely warped, and he's hooked.

Reality sucks and we all escape into games, fantasy, fiction, fun, anything that will not remind us of how real life blows sometimes, but Sal, poor guy, has shown us we can go further (not that we planned to but those of us who are really screwed up will go all 9 yards).

Looking at this, I have to say, WTF. This actually scares me, because it is a red flag. A warning of what may be to come in places like Japan. Sure its not as bad as murder, drugs, and suicide (those are clear, and widely ignored indications of our social faults), but in 5, 10, 20+ years, more people are gonna be hooked in like Sal is.

And most likely a new AI industry might emerge, and soon people won't be connecting with real people anymore.

S.C.A.R.Y.

documentary explains how people start getting screwed up.

school pressures
Please watch both films when you can.

Ok I'm done comment/spam/flame

Someone says said: : I’m sure he does feel happy, but this can’t end well. Eventually his DS will break or he’ll realize he’s married a piece of consumer electronics. I only hope it happens sooner rather than later, as if he’s serious about this I doubt he’ll cheat on his DS with a real woman.

Honestly I wonder how the character artist feels about this.

And dankvz, it’s not like this is normal for Japan, either. You may be right about the marriage lasting longer than normal though. I mean, I doubt there’ll be many fights. Not much sex, either.

I don’t know how to put it, but there should be a limit to the kinds of crazy actions we allow. SHE’S. NOT. REAL. W.T.F.

Someone else says said: : Wondering whether or not the guy is mentally ill isn’t an attack on him.

What would you think if tomorrow at the Thanksgiving table your brother broke out his Nintendo DS and announced to the family that he is marrying his video game girlfriend – and he’s dead serious.

It’s the serious part that counts.

Would you be concerned for your brother’s mental health?

I am very, very, VERY sure this is a publicity stunt. It is quite obvious that the whole marriage is a elabourate joke attempting to poke fun at the massive amount of affection puit into video game or anime characters by their fans.
Seriousness? They’re actors. They can make a girl marry a tree if they wanted.

“Oh, he’s always wanting for me outside on my lawn, he loves me so much.”

A Japanese Onion, somewhat.

Even so, it is pretty hilarious the kind of stuff Japan comes up with.
