My History with MS – Rice Remix

By In Uncategorized

What’s this? A nonfanficblog by me? It’s been so long that my last non-writing-related-blog is older than some of the members here, so I guess it’s about time for one. For this particular blog I am going to steal Tharty’s idea. My bad.

It’s been so long since I wrote a blog I hope I’m doing this right.

My history with MapleStory starts in the best of times and the worst of times. Eighth grade. 2005. Bush was still president, no one was on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or Wikipedia, and the world was still Bieber-free. Wow.

So it was on a Wednesday (note: may or may not be accurate) a little more than six years ago now that I first heard about MapleStory. My initial impression was that this was some lame new game but since it was spreading like wildfire through my stupid little middle school, I decided to give it a whirl. So that day after I came home from school at 3 I downloaded MapleStory and by 6 (it was 2005) I was running around Henesys and Kerning City with my little warrior named Iffit while listening to the radio (it was 2005). I don’t know where that name comes from, but for anyone who’s read my fanfics, I pull strange names out of my ass like Paris Hilton pulls bugs out of her–er, yes.

I remember I left Victoria Island before I even hit level 5. Because I could. My stats were messed up of course, but somehow that little warrior survived until level 23. After about a month of playing or so.

My next go at a character was a cleric-to-be named Isinglass.

I think maybe I reached around level 35 or so with that character when Beta ended. I don’t even remember getting than Pan Lid. These were the golden days of Tespia when everyone busted all their mesos buying every single set of new equipment.

Beta ended in the spring of 2005 and then GMS was unveiled at last. I remember waking up in the middle of the night at 4 in the morning to download GMS and be one of the first to play it. It was funny, ’cause it was the first day of California State Testing that day too.

I created a new character named AznRiceFan, which is the origin of my username.

I spent one glorious summer leveling up this masterpiece of a disastrous I/L. I would comb the streets of Scania ch. 12, eventually becoming strong enough to visit Ossyria because, well, Ossyria was new to everyone still. I still remember venturing into the mountains of El Nath for the first time and encountering werewolves and lycanthropes and taking pictures like a Japanese tourist.

Well eventually high school started in September for me, I lost contact with my friends in middle school who played MS (they went to a different high school), and AznRiceFan essentially stood frozen in time at level 60 by the fall or winter of 2005.

I still logged in occasionally and hung around MS forums, but I no longer grinded like crazy. Once I stopped, it was easy to stay stopped. Even when Ludibrium came out, I only went out of retirement briefly before leaving again. It just wasn’t the same. It usually isn’t.

These days I still play every once in a long while. I combed through private servers for a while. Sometimes I get an urge to start a new character and play MS again. I recently started a Brawler that I leveled to around 40 or so before abruptly quitting. I already forgot his name, see?

That’s about it for the history of my experience with MS.

I’ve lost all my screenshots. The ones I posted are the only ones I have left.

That green suit place is gone. They had it for a while, then switched back to something more akin to the old format.

Haha. My first warrior didn’t have enough dex to equip the lvl 30 Dragon Robe thing. The highest LEGIT character I’ve made yet is level 54 I think. xD

Edit: Started March 2006. 6th Grade. =P
