The LoST 10

The Lone Shadow Templar

10: Lupine

His wretched soul hovered above me, mocking me with its jagged teeth and snide grimace. I felt something cold brush against my cheek; a gun. My eyes moved with the barrel, watching as it lined up with my temple.

“You just don’t seem to die do you,” Nass sighed with a hint of annoyance. “So damn uncompromising… just like your sister…”

My anger for him seethed uncontrollably within the depths of my heart. The Balrog in my chest was threatening to burst out and lash out in any way possible. I didn’t want him dead. I needed him dead.

He sighed again and continued, “I guess in the end, you have to do everything yourself.”

Nass steadied his weapon. I reached out only to realize I was tied down to a table. So familiar…

“Do it,” I snarled, “Because if you don’t, I will kill you.”

In my mind though, part of me was wishing for him to kill me, to end it all, to send me away from this world. To bring me back to Aaron…

He laughed, “Ha, you’re not in the position to be making threats. Don’t worry; you’ll be with Aaron again soon.”

Then it hit me. I was so stupid to not see it before. He took everything away from me… only to give it to himself.

“You bastard…” I whispered in astonishment.

“Ha a bit on the slow side now aren’t you, Night,” he mocked, “Yes, I do know every single one of your thoughts. Your blood has shown me a new light, a new point of view. The mind is a very powerful weapon.” He narrowed his eyes on mine.

Suddenly, a sharp pain tore through my spine, as if a thousand volts of electricity were surging through my veins. My scream seemed to echo forever in the darkness.

He smiled, then straightened up and called out into the shadows, “False!”

The silent assassin moved up into view, his face hidden behind the emotionless black mask.

“Make sure that….”

Suddenly, a klaxon alarm sounded. The room lit up in a red warning light, and I realized I was being held in a small interrogation room. Whipping my head to the left, I could see the one way mirror leading to the observation room.

The door burst open and a Dominion man crashed in, “Sir, Prisoner 912 has escaped!”

“What do I pay you idiots for!” Nass spat in exasperation. His eyes paused on mine; I quickly focused all of my thoughts in hating him. It seemed to work, for he backed up and muttered to himself, “Gotta do it yourself…” Nass made his way to the door and as he disappeared behind the wall, he barked, “Make sure no one touches her!”

The door slammed shut and immediately, False grabbed my face with a gloved hand. “I’ve been looking forward to having some alone time with you,” he purred into my ear. Before I could react, he unsheathed a knife and to my surprise, sliced away my bounds. I jumped off, putting the table in between us.

False took a step back and sheathed the blade. Then he nodded towards me, “Ladies first.”

He asked for it…

I jumped back and planted both of my feet into the back wall. Then, I launched myself into his direction, reaching out with my hands. He deftly jumped away, but my fingers grasped his arm and we twirled around in an arc, both of us landing on our feet.

He spun around and lashed out with a jab. I felt the wind as I ducked down and gave him a punch in the kidney. Then, his arm slid down and hit mine away, sending me stumbling away. The next thing I knew, he was already before me. With a rough jerk, he lifted me up with his hands; my feet were dangling off the ground.

Using all of my force, I brought my knee against his face, trying to smash his cheekbone with my knee cap. His head jerked back, but instantly recovered. He grunted and threw me; my body slid across the table and crumpled to the floor.

Within moments, he was forcing me up against the wall. He wound back and thrust a fist into my gut. I gasped out, spitting out blood. His grin grew wider and wider.

Just as he was about to swipe me across my face, I noticed the two blades he had sheathed on his waist. Immediately realizing that one of them was mine, I kicked him in the ribs and grabbed both knives. With a quick motion, I whirled around, feeling the cold steel slash into his chest twice. He stumbled back, looking down at the wound and then back at me.

All of a sudden, the door blew open; silhouetted in the door was what seemed to be a gigantic dog. Then, it howled deafeningly, seemingly shaking the entire complex. In a flash, it charged. I dove the side just as it impacted False with a dull thud, sending him onto his back.

The animal turned, and I realized from its snout to be some strain of wolf. It was bigger than a hector and a pang, but it did not stand upon two legs like a lycanthrope. Its shaggy grey mane seemed to flow as if underwater. Its light blue eyes glared at me, piercing my soul. There was something about this beast that seemed oddly familiar.

Then, muffled shouts reached my ears, growing louder and louder. The animal darted towards the door, but just as it was about to escape, it turned and barked loudly at me. Without thinking, I dashed after it, still wielding the two knives, one warm and familiar in the right and the other cold and unforgiving in the left.

We turned the corner and instantly met up with a pursuing squad. The fires in their eyes rivaled that of their waiting bullets.

“There’s 912! Get him!” The leader shouted at his men; the sound of rifles locking and loading reached my ears.

The beast and I took flight at the same time. His fangs sank into the leader’s neck just as I punctured two throats with my blades. As their blood splattered grotesquely on the concrete wall, a burst of gunfire reverberated through the corridor. I felt a stray bullet whisk past my hair just as I rolled forwards and felt a satisfying crunch as I stuck a knife into another man’s leg. Slashing up, I plunged the other blade into a second man’s chest. Their blood sprayed up like fountains, decorating the wall with a fine shade of crimson.

The wolf charged at the final man, taking out his knees and sending him flying into the air. Prepping myself, I coiled my legs back and sprang up, raising both knives up in the air. In the blink of an eye, cold steel met flesh and bone. His body hit the ground with a crunch as his ribs collapsed under my pressure. A last dying sigh escaped from his throat, then a silence forever.

As the alarm continued to blare wildly, the two of us skidded to a halt at a sudden dead end. The steel wall towered above us, cutting off any chance of escape. Turning around, I stumbled back just as False seemed to just teleport to the end of our corridor. The red flashing lights matched satanically with his black mask.

“Wolfe… that wasn’t very nice was it?” False’s voice was barely audible above the raging alarms.

My eyes shifted down to look at the wolf. What a fitting name…

“And Night,” False continued as he raised his sniper rifle, “It looks like I’ll be having the pleasure…”

All of a sudden, the wall to our right exploded in a shower of concrete and steel. I felt myself being thrown back. My head hit something extremely hard, and then everything became black.

I could hear voices, muffled voices.

They were screaming.
