This is my fourth and final year of my Latin class. Having learnt how the language works and how to translate it, this year we focus more on the literary part of the language.
School started around 20 March, and my first Latin homework was to write an essay about Italo Calvino’s book’s introduction, Why read the classics. We also had to describe our library, in which we had all our classic and favourite books (including yet-to-read ones).

Among other titles, I included Douglas Adams’ The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

But first, we need to back up a little. A few days before it was due, I asked one of my lady friends what titles she had in her library – one of them was Adams’ book. She told me she loved it, I told her I’d love to read it (since I had read many quotes, reviews and etc. regarding the book). The following day she brought me the book, but to my surprise, it was in Spanish. Guia del autoestopista galactico: sounds like crap.

Back to the homework, I added that I had just borrowed one copy from a friend, but that it was in Spanish and that I’d like to read it in the original language.

The class after the homework was due, he hands me my homework back, along with his copy of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. In English.

    He’s won my heart.
