ParticipantIs death penalty the best punishment for the people who have committed horrifying crimes?
The death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment. The Canadian Rights and Regulations (The U.S. Constitution) does not allow cruel and unusual punishment. Therefore, the death penalty is not allowed.
Or…
Let’s just take the safety tabs off everything and let the problem fix itself.

ParticipantLife inprisonment is crueler than the death penalty because, after all, you are locked up for the rest of your life in a 8*8 foot cell.
How would you know what would be the best for Death Row Inmates. Are you… my good man, incarcerated?

ParticipantI concur with Zappy.

ParticipantLife imprisonment is a waste of taxpayer money. It also provides people with time to escape, putting dangerous people back onto the streets.

ParticipantDevils advocate time:
Some research says it costs more to have someone executed than living in a cell for life.
After someone commits a crime, do you not want them to differ for they have done? Let them be tortured by the idea of living their life in jail. Dont give them the easy way out by killing them.
But is there no greater punishment than death? An eye for an eyeBut an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
points to ponder

ParticipantDeath is so final…
If you throw them in jail for life, and 30 years later some new light is shed on the situation and the guy turns out to be innocent (e.g. DNA forensics), you can let them out. But then again you could argue that locking up someone for 30 years and then saying “oh sorry, we made a mistake, you can come out now” is just as damaging or more.
On the other hand, you simply can’t revive a dead person. Ever. No matter how long or short it’s been since they died. At least there’s some hope for inprisonment.

ParticipantEither way, it’s something you can’t give back. Your time and/or your life? :/
I think it’s pretty ridiculous though when somebody get sentenced to over a hundred years in prison… = =”

ParticipantI think death penalty is more reasonable… If the guy is getting a life sentence, they should get a death penalty. Simple as that. (Or if the guy is getting a 50 year penalty and he’s 50, or something, then yeah…)
