ParticipantSo I was just thinking, maybe we could have an RP running again, except this time instead of having everybody RP their own character actions, we could do it in an adapted D&D style. Maybe 1-3 people DMing a campaign with a set amount of people partying together. Everyone would take turns acting and the DMs would narrate how it ends up/roll the dice etc etc.
Of course, we can’t actually use the D&D system because this is a forum and not a tabletop, but it shouldn’t be hard to think of simple rules that allow for turn-based actions, character customization, and some RPG elements. For example, instead of using 50 bajillion different dies we could use a random number generator that rolls from 1-20 and add/subtract from it based on what’s going on in the actual game.
Anyone interested?

ParticipantSo 1-2 Gamemasters, others make characters and perform single actions, and then the GMs calculate odds and ends and tell the player what happens?
It sounds less like a story and more like a turn-based dungeon RP. Though interesting, I can’t see it lasting very long. The most exciting parts of old Rps were huge battles and posters choosing how their character lived their life in that world.
I’m up for trying it though.

ParticipantKen takes sword and stabs Zathe multiple times.

ParticipantRoll: Attack (D10)
Your Strength: 15 (+1 for swordmastery, – 4 for being a noob)
Zathe’s Defense: 17 (+ 5 for being OP)Your Roll: 2
You swipe at Zathe with your longsword when he is unaware, but he retaliates and meets your sword with his axe, causing a power struggle. After a few moments of panic, you both heave backwards and let go, both tired but unharmed.

Participantoh….That won’t go so well…
but hey i’m in.

ParticipantKen’s skimpy chicken arms can barely lift anything bigger than a textbook (-14 to hit)
Roll: 7 (-14, critical fumble)
Not only did you fail to unsheathe your sword, you stab yourself in the process. With a sheathed sword. The real miracle is in how you managed to get that sword onto your belt to begin with.

ParticipantAny volunteers for DMs? Otherwise, it’ll just be me following the “concrete” ruleset that only I can see. That benefits only the people I like and screws over the people I don’t.
And by that I mean it’ll be me pulling rules out of my ass unless there are other people for me to

ParticipantBasic turn system:
One round is the length of every party member taking a turn.
One turn is a player action.A DM will roll to see the order in which the players post. Depending on the situation, the DMs can apply a respective influencing stat modifier (e.g., when socializing in a tavern, charisma will be the influencing stat). An amount will be added or subtracted to the player’s roll based on their respective stats (someone with no charisma at all will be the last to start talking to people, whereas the person with the most charisma will get right out there).
From a metagame perspective, if the next person in order fails to post in, say, 24 hours, their turn will be skipped and the next person in the queue will go. If the skipped person manages to alert the DMs before the round is over, they will go at the end of the queue after everyone else has taken their turn.
And that’s an example of a rule.

ParticipantMeh, I prefer literary RPs. If I want to make a game of it, I’ll play an actual RPG.

ParticipantTBH, it’s just my excuse to run an RP that’s turn-based and I can narrate a story with.
