I’m a bit ambivalent about legalization of marijuana. The only reason I’d really want to legalize it would be for the sin taxes. And there’s the whole reverse psychology argument. Banned = more people want it. But really, I’m more inclined to side with those who want to keep it banned. Hell, if I had my way, I’d eradicate cigarettes and alcohol from the world too. But that ain’t happening.
So, in short, keep it banned. I get pissed off enough walking past smokers and huffing their second hand smoke. I can stand to not walk past someone blazing it and huffing their funny smoke.
I don’t see depression as the underlying root cause. I see your “rational suicide” as a means of giving up under the pretense of rationally deciding your own fate. I won’t comment on euthanasia and its implications, because I myself am still formulating an opinion on it. However, if you’re trying to justify rational suicide when it isn’t a case of life and death, then I have to disagree with you. (By which I mean, for example, someone who may be in a dire financial or personal situation from which there is no escape.)
In those cases I see rational suicide as simply giving up pathetically. Why die? When you die, it’s all over. Nothing will be changed when you’re dead. As long as you’re still alive, there is a chance for you to change things, for things to improve. If you give up and die, there will be nothing left. It will be all over. In these cases suicide is merely a cowardly way of escape from your life’s problems. Of course, some people, like the example of Albus Dumbledore that you decided, for political reasons or whatever choose to be a martyr. All the more power to ya, but that’s probably not applicable to most people on this planet.
Heyhey, just remember that when you buy something and pay taxes, your money’s gonna go towards paying for food and shelter for someone who killed someone’s pappy or mommy or raped someone’s sister.

On the other hand, you simply can’t revive a dead person. Ever. No matter how long or short it’s been since they died. At least there’s some hope for inprisonment.
Would you support it if it was reserved only for cases in which there is clearly indisputable evidence? (Such as camera footage showing the murder take place.)

Find a thing. For some people it’s singing, others it’s writing, some do sports. Find something that you can invest energy in. And then make it your thing.
